EROL BULUT AFTER 12 GAMES : “ MY VIEW “

Sun Oct 22, 2023 5:56 am

AFTER 12 GAMES :

After 12 games , I believe that we have a “thereabouts” team , that can make the playoffs ….given a good January window .

My personal take is that “as it stands” , we are a thereabouts team , as far as making the top six is concerned . Almost there but not yet .

However , I fully expect that Tan will get aggressive and will provide the funds necessary to strengthen the team in January. In that eventuality , we will have every chance of making the playoffs . Let me explain :

(1) First the manager : In Bulut , we have a good steady manager . His method is hard work , team work , safety first , keep a clean sheet ….and hit them fast on the break when you get the ball .

Bulut can spot talent (Goutas and Siopis) … but then he knew them personally … not by spotting . One thing I really like about him is his transparency and honesty. Sometimes , though , these may go too far (Robinson , Colwill , Tanner)… yet it does work sometimes …eg Tanner . Bulut’s weakness is his reading of the game……how he sets up the team …..and who/when to introduce the subs . It is a bit hit and miss. Conclusion : I like Bulut and believe that he is a good manager . He is not excellent ….but good enough for the playoffs.

(2) Now the players: To start with , avoiding relegation is a non issue ….that is history. However , automatic promotion is also completely out . I divide our players in two categories. Those who are good enough for a top 6 position ….and those who are hit and miss ….almost there …good enough on their day ….but not always. Those that are top six are : Alnwick , NG , Goutas , McGuinness , Colins , Siopis , and of course Ramsey.

(3) Conclusion : We have a good manager and a team that I believe can make the play offs …. IF WE HAVE AN INSPIRED JANUARY !!!

I do not know the odds …..but if they are high enough …..and if one is a betting man ….. it is worth a flutter ….for Cardiff to make the playoffs.

On bet365 we are presently 9/1 to finish in top 6 and 29/1 to be promoted either automatically or via play offs.

Spot on summary but not sure if Collins has come back yet to the standard he showed briefly last season so not a top 6 player yet for me .
If we get a quality creative midfielder and at least one quality striker….Kieffer would be my number 1 choice ….then top 6 more than realistic imo .

I also like Bulut as manager and think he is learning on the job about the championship and will get better tactically

Good post Annis
I believe we need 2 quality midfielders
2 good strikers and a Centre half
Get rid of Sawyers Rhino Adams Robinson and loan out colwill
Wintle and Ralls as back up
The amount of times Wintle has been giving the ball away lately has been terrible.

At Blackburn yesterday. I have to say Bulut continues to make the wrong midfield selections.
As Albert Einstein said, the essence of madness is to continously make the same mistake - and that is what Bulut is doing picking Ryan Wintle and Joe Ralls in the same midfield combination.

With Siopis as first pick as the defensive midfielder, we need one naturally left-footed player alongside him and one creative midfielder - and that ain't Wintle.

Without Arron Ramsey, that must be Cullum Robinson or Rueben Colwill or Ralls, with Adams alongside Siopis if the latter is selected.
For me, Wintle only plays if Siopis doesn't - he simply doesn't offer enough in this improved Cardiff team.

The addition of a quality two-footed midfielder in January is a must, and, with Ramsey fit, that will put Ralls and Wintle's positions in jeopardy.

I have to say too, I'd look at switching Callum O'Dowda into central midfield - once he is fit again, he could be our new Peter Whittingham.

A great ball player, he can pick a pass, can get forward and is a fabulous athlete.

Expect Keiffer Moore to be a Bluebird again within nine weeks - openly told everyone in the Wales squad last week he is "coming home" and is looking at houses in the Cardiff area - great news!

I think the Gaffer is spot on at the moment. If we bring KM back in Jan he will add to the team NOT only with goals but with his work off the ball too.Same with Rambo I was quite pleasantly surprised with his workrate Off the ball.Robbo and Colwill are nowhere near that level at the moment and have to shape up in my view to get in the team.
