Erol Bulut says Cardiff City should have won by more as he reveals Robinson delight and dressing room mood
Cardiff City got back to winning ways with a 4-0 thumping of Huddersfield Town.
Cardiff City boss Erol Bulut says the Bluebirds should have won by more after their 4-0 hammering of Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night but says they will remain grounded as they returned to the Championship's play-off places.
Goals from Callum Robinson, Dimi Goutas, Yakou Meïte and Perry Ng tamed the Terriers in Yorkshire in an utterly dominant display which put them back on the winning track following defeat to Blackburn Rovers last weekend.
The Bluebirds have been stifled in front of goal in the last few games but against Darren Moore's men they were ruthless; indeed Bulut believes they should have registered more goals.
The win has moved Cardiff back into the top six but the manager says talk of a play-off push is premature at present.
EROL BULUT:
“It’s too early to talk about that, anything can happen at this stage of the season," he said. “Everything can still change, we’ve still got a long way to go in front of us this season.”
We’ve had really good performances earlier this season and not got the results we’ve deserved. Against Swansea and against Ipswich we played really well, but then last week against Blackburn, that was just what I didn’t want to see.
“Tonight was much more what I expect. Against the ball and with the ball we were so much better, and to be honest, it probably should have been more than four goals we won by.
“I’m satisfied of course, but if we’d have been a bit calmer in front of the goal, we would have scored more. Confidence is great in the dressing room. Defensively we were strong too, and a clean sheet away from home is good. We’ve been good offensively, though, so we need to carry this momentum on now.”
Bulut had mentioned in recent days how he wanted to see more from Robinson, both with and without the ball, and the attacker stepped up to the plate at the John Smith's Stadium, scoring with a deft flick with just 90 seconds on the clock.
After handing the Republic of Ireland striker his first start of the season, the boss revealed his delight with the performance.
"I'm pleased for Callum," Bulut added. "We spoke beforehand about what we need from him. Obviously, in attack we want goals and assists and he scored today. But I'm also pleased with his defensive work. He tired, so we substituted him, but we're hoping to see more goals and assists from him, including with his minutes this weekend.
"Meïte - all of us are happy. He's been trying very hard. I told him to continue working and the goals will come. It's good that he has his first goal for us.“
