South Wales Police

South wales police are a bunch of incompetent idiots. Whoever made the decision to shut sloper road to Cardiff fans after the game is a complete moron. It was a joke we were stuck there for nearly an hour and a half after kick off. Yes there were a few moronic Cardiff fans who decided to throw cones and all sorts at the police, but the police had no control and were provoking the fans and making them more angry. There were kids there who were crying and not sure what was going on, all the police kept saying was to calm down. It was raining and cold and there was no communication from SWP. It was a ridiculous decision to let Bristol fans out first. It would have been much better to keep Bristol fans in the stadium and let us go first. Put a bit of a dampener on a brilliant day out.

Sorry that it put a dampener on your day. The only thing I’d say is that the police did give notice that it was happening.

Plenty of notice given I knew about as did many others was also posted here. And if we didn’t have so many moronic fans the kids wouldn’t be scared and crying that’s on Cardiff city supporters not the police. You sound like some flakey BLM protester who blames everyone but the cause.

I will defend the Police on this one Plenty of notice given that the road would be closed after the game What did you expect if you were there

Re: South Wales Police

Sun Oct 29, 2023 8:25 am

I got to central around half past 5 and the Bristol fans escort was just getting there, so no idea why it took so long to open up sloper road.

Probably our idiot fans acting the hard un throwing cones around.

Re: South Wales Police

Sun Oct 29, 2023 9:05 am

They did give notice but said it would be 20 mins after the finish. It was over an hour and caused great difficulty for families and older fans.

Nobody minds waiting 20 minutes but over an hour in the rain is asking for trouble and downright wrong.

Doesn’t give the police the excuse to punish the 100s of others waiting.

Re: South Wales Police

Grow up. Plenty of notice. It was drizzling not raining. It wasn’t cold. Many were wearing shorts. If there was trouble after the game the police would have been blamed for that. You could easily have gone across the road for a coffee.

Re: South Wales Police

Sun Oct 29, 2023 6:24 pm

No need to keep the fans behind for so long.
I was there and there was a mixture of all fans waiting
Not every city fan, especially elderly fans reads message boards, I was there one woman was having a panic attack, young kids crying, it’s easy to say walk around Leckwith way but we were told 20 minutes

Re: South Wales Police

Sun Oct 29, 2023 6:44 pm

Don’t know why they don’t just keep Bristol on the ground for 20 mins. I remember once at Leeds we were kept in for about an hour.

Re: South Wales Police

Sun Oct 29, 2023 8:28 pm

Plenty of notice!! Yes they did they said it was 20 minutes which was fine and expected no problem with that, but not an hour and a half it was ridiculous plus. If you call that rain drizzle fine but it poured fir a good 2 minutes and everyone was soaked. Not fair on the little kids that were there, or the elderly plus my son suffers with severe anxiety within situations which he doesn’t know what is happening and the amount Of pushing and shoving was actually really scary and not nice as a result of a few idiotic fans and complete chaos by SWP

And they had to react to the ongoing situation in Grangetown. Furthermore, those gutless yobs in the crowd throwing objects, including someone's household rubbish, at the coppers in front of them, need their heads read...

Open question: What would the moaners have them do to prevent escalation and protect members of the public...?

So some were half an hour or so later getting home? Boo Hoo!

And something else to remember is that plod on the ground are simply soldier ants doing the bidding of thise above them, so maybe it's the higher ups people should be aiming their (mainly crocodile) tears at...!

I was happy to wait for 20 mins but how does that turn to over an hour ? The delay was to prevent fans mixing, fine. But Bristol were well gone after just 30 mins.

Not from what I saw at 18:30+ at Cardiff Central, where some Wurzels had been turfed off one train and sent to the outside queuing system for a later train... :(

Or we could just turn it back into a bubble game and everyone would be happy

Re: South Wales Police

Where was it announced before the game? I didn't see anything that would have suggested pedestrian access to sloper Road was stopped.

Surely if they need to keep the restrictions on a road as tight as that then they should be bubbling the Bristol fans? Not punishing the home fans who use Sloper Road every week and have done for years without issue!

It was on the City web site and all over socials. It was closed off for 20mins last time we played them too but didn't have the delays that happened on Sat.

What’s annoying is they closed the road off before the final whistle and not after it as communicated.

Clearly not, as some supporters got to Grangetown to confront the away support... :(

I don't think burying it within the match day guide is enough, I don't really see why they couldn't have emailed it out as a separate email to the other rubbish they normally send.

They also could have had it on the big screen in the stadium so you at least weren't surprised by it.

I ended up walking down Hadfield Road and there were dozens of Wurzels walking down it so it didn't seem particularly effective.

It wasn't buried on the matchday guide.

There were specific posts by the club on the website and social media that this was going to happen, as GrangeEndStar says.

I also posted it on this forum.

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=236199

There were also screens in the car park by the entrance gates to the stadium to Canton Stand/Ninian Stand, next to the coaches, telling supporters about it.

Re: South Wales Police

Mon Oct 30, 2023 6:54 pm

I walk in the entrance from sloper Road and didn't see any signs until after the game.

I've had a look on the club website and don't see anything on there other than in the match day guide.

I don't understand why people are getting defensive about some of us not knowing it was going on.

Surely in this day and age we can agree that these sort of heady handed police tactics are not necessary?

No idea about the programme but the clubs not at fault, it was on the City website, on socials plus the club email a match day guide and of course it was on here. But it would have been a good idea to have our it in the screens too just in case anyone missed it.

Like I said, it was closed off for 20 mins last time and no issues. I've read that the problem appears to have arisen with stones being thrown at the Bristol coaches and that's from a City source who is involved with travel and it sounds like things escalated from there. I also read that a Bristol coach stopped in Sloper Rd on the way in and some older guys had a pop at some youngsters which has also happened before. So lots of people were aware of the 20min planned closure and it just looks like a case where things escalated and the Heddlu commander made a decision.

But with anything like this that involves delays, people just like to know how long it will be, I've no idea whether plod were relaying this on bullhorns but that's what should have happened as it relieves the tension of not knowing.

Re: South Wales Police

Mon Oct 30, 2023 10:09 pm

I left on 85 minutes and the Road was closed Sven before the final whistle and plod were set up for not for debate. You are incorrect when you say clearly not. Those at Grangetown were probably not at the game similar to what happened in Sunderland last season.

Re: South Wales Police

Tue Oct 31, 2023 9:15 am

It’s a stupid idea, away fans should be kept back not us
years ago over the road the police would form a cordon into car park for larger numbers of away fans
The minor trouble Saturday was knowwhere what used to go on in the bad old days when police tried using cordons to sepeate fans, I think a few people got annoyed at the wait and some probably used it as an excuse and threw some recycling bags, and then the police decided to make fans wait longer then.If this is what’s going to happen on BIg games, I think I’ll park hadfield road next time, it’s the older fans and families who had no idea I feel sorry for, who didn’t have a clue this was going to happen , let’s hope it doesn’t turn any new fans off.who attended the game

Exactly yes close the road, but don't deliberately provoke the Cardiff fans who were in good spirits, let them through after 20 minutes.

I meant well gone from Sloper Road !!

If we’re talking about when they were away from the station then we wouldn’t have been allowed through Canton either !!!!!!
