Artificial intelligence

Fascinating watching this unfold.

So many books and films about the rise of AI and the implications on mankind.

Let’s be honest, if AI was ever in a position to wipe out the human race, logically it would be the right thing to do to protect the world as a whole. We are doing a shite job as custodians of it.

You have been watching too many Arnie films.

I did a study of it all many years ago and it was quite frightening. My study was on the solder in the field of battle where one of his colleagues was badly damaged. He had a receiver in his arms where a Doctor could take control of them and carry out an operation. That was scary if it ever happens I thought. Sounds good but I would not like to be the injured solder.

Operation on the battlefield? Bonkers.

It was massively mentioned in terminator but there are many books of course. It’s really quite scary. Like I said, logically, humans would be got rid of.

Showing my age here but I was one of the very first group of pupils to sit A Level Computer Science at Cardiff High School. Back then there were only 10 of us allowed to take the subject and names got pulled out of a hat.

Our teacher suffered a nervous breakdown and, because of a lack of qualified teachers, we had to teach ourselves for around 6 months.

Anyway the syllabus back then concentrated heavily on how computers were going to take peoples jobs.

I dare say, in some industries, that has happened but overall the same concerns are still here 36 years on.

Yes I remember that lie.

Come highly skilled in maintaining computers and have a well paid job for life. So loads of us went down that line, got the qualifications only to see the stuff we were meant to fix get thrown away for a new one as it was cheaper to go that way.

AI - Professor Steven hawking and Elon Musk are amongst those warning about this technology BUT like Nuclear Weapons - once the technology exists the "genie is out of the bottle" and you will find it almost impossible to control its threat.

It's quite frightening really.

I advise revisiting or watching the following:

The original Terminator film (part 1)
George orwell's 1984
Netflix - Unknown: Killer Robots

:!: :o

Joe Rogan and good listening normally doesn’t go together.

If anyone is interested, the AI conversation with JD from Metal Gear Solid 2 is worth a watch on YouTube. That's an eye opener.
