Humphreys on Cardiff animosity
Swansea City's on-loan star Bashir Humphreys has likened the animosity he received while playing for England out in Argentina to the hostility he faced in the South Wales derby with Cardiff.
The Chelsea defender was part of England's U20 World Cup squad out in Argentina, where he was told his side were the "most hated" team there, owing to the history and rivalry between the two countries. Humphreys spoke about the abuse and jeers he and his team-mates received out in Argentina and believes it's the worst he's been subjected to in his fledgling career. Although Cardiff, he says, is up there.
He told the Swansea website: "We went to Argentina and it was hostile. We didn't know it would be hostile, but there's a lot of history there. And our liaison said 'You are the most hated!'
"So we got to our game and we started singing the national anthem and it was straight booing, whistling, abuse from the sidelines. I loved it. It was so good. It was just 22 players against the whole country. It inspired us even more to go on.
"In terms of animosity, setting, playing a World Cup in Argentina, it couldn't have gone any better. That's still the most animosity I've felt... oh, actually, Cardiff was pretty bad as well!"
