Wales’ hopes of qualifying automatically for Euro 2024 in Germany now look very unlikely.
For that to happen, they will need to beat Turkey and hope Croatia don’t beat Armenia - both of those games are on Tuesday night.
But the good news is that they are now guaranteed a place in the play-offs. This is due to the fact that Switzerland and the Netherlands qualified automatically for the tournament on Saturday.
12 teams go into the play-offs. They will be split into three sections. Each section will have four teams, so there will be two semi finals and a final in each section - all games are over one leg. The three winning finalists will then enter the tournament next summer with the 20 nations who qualify automatically and the hosts, Germany.
Wales’ potential play-off route is still to be decided.
As it stands, they would play Italy in the semi final. The other semi final in that section would be Poland v Czechia.
HOWEVER:
Italy will qualify automatically if they avoid defeat against Ukraine on Monday.
Czechia will qualify automatically if they beat Moldova on Monday.
If both Italy and Czechia qualify, Wales will play at home against any one of Iceland, Ukraine or Finland.
If just Italy qualify, Wales will play away against Czechia.
If just Czechia qualify, Wales will play away against Poland.
As said above, if neither Italy or Czechia qualify then Wales’ semi final will be away at Italy.

Wales would struggle to beat any team in the playoffs, based on the current performances. Would it be another worldcup embarrassment if we did qualify. I think so, unless we get a decent manager in.
