I'd normally go with a City win but with Bobby Madeley in charge again there's not much hope of that.

Preston North End’s manager is Ryan Lowe, who was appointed back in December 2021.

In his playing days, Lowe featured for the likes of Shrewsbury Town, Bury, MK Dons, Tranmere Rovers and Crewe Alexandra.

Since switching to management, Lowe has previously made an impression at Bury, guiding them to promotion to League One.

Upon moving to Plymouth Argyle, he earned another promotion, leading the club to a third-placed finish to climb to League One.

Since joining the Lilywhites, Lowe has won 37 of his 93 games in charge, with a win percentage of 39.78%.

Hughes, McCann and the Preston North End injury news for Cardiff City -

PNE were without a handful of players prior to the international break

Preston North End manager Ryan Lowe could welcome Andrew Hughes and Jack Whatmough back into his squad on Saturday.

The defensive duo have missed more than a month through injury, with a calf issue keeping Hughes out while Whatmough suffered a hamstring blow. Both players got 45 minutes in the tank in Tuesday's friendly against Manchester City under-21s.

Elsewhere, Ali McCann and Greg Cunningham are expected back in full training next week, having been sidelined with calf and hamstring issues respectively. Calvin Ramsay continues to work his way up to full fitness, while Emil Riis could make his long awaited return next month.

Early City team news

Bluebirds boss Erol Bulut this week provided an injury update ahead of the clash with Preston.

In a double boost, both Manolis Siopis, who suffered a training injury while away with Greece on international duty, and Perry Ng, who missed the last game against Norwich City, are available for the trip to Deepdale.

“With the international team, he had a small problem," Bulut said on Thursday of Siopis. "But today he didn’t show any problems when he trained, so it looks like he will be there in the game. All of the players are important for us.

"We don’t want too many injuries, because before we had a few and our game style changed a little bit. We want Aaron Ramsey and Callum O’Dowda to come back as soon as possible. They’ve been running well, but we have to be careful and not start them back too early.”

Expanding more on those long-term absentees, Ramsey and O'Dowda, Bulut said: "[Ramsey] was running today with O’Dowda, around the field, it was looking good. So I hope (he will be back) as soon as possible. I didn’t talk with the medical department about when they will be available. But they were running today with good speed.

"If you rush them back, it can happen that he will have to get a surgery. This is something none of us want. We have to be careful and take them back fit. If we take them too early it will be their season finished, maybe, I don’t want to risk this.

"The medical department is working hard every day with those players. But it’s natural that it takes two months, so we cannot bring him back. Now, this injury has a time. It was starting really well. Then he took a rest for 10 days and now it’s looking good. I hope both Ramsey and O’Dowda in January. He will be available for Wales in March I think!"

Big chance for Cardiff. The resulting corner was headed down by Mark McGuinness and Alan Browne couldn't quite clear his lines in a dangerous area before Karlan Grant squeezed the ball narrowly wide of the far post.
