'
We have our eyes and ears there' – The European transfer network Erol Bulut will use to take Cardiff City to another levelBy Glen WilliamsErol Bulut wants to take his Cardiff City squad to "another level" in the January transfer window and hopes to lean on his European scouting network.
The Bluebirds boss wants to add as many as four players in the new year, with nine players having arrived in the summer. Managers expect to take a few windows in order to shape their squad in their own vision fully and Bulut is looking forward to his second window in the saddle, so to speak.
Cardiff have had a positive start to the season, particularly when compared to the last two campaigns, and sit just outside the play-off spots. But while Bulut appreciates the strides which have been made, he is resting on no laurels and views January as a means to further improve his cohort.
"
I hope that we can make something in the market," Bulut said of January. "
What we need and if we can do it in January, those three or four players. I think we can push for more.
“In the summer, we made nine transfers. They help us a lot. Defensive and offensive players. We are not only looking in the Turkish Superlig. OK we have (Manolis) Siopis and (Dimitrios) Goutas, and we have our eyes and ears there, if we can get some quality there, but we are also looking in the UK market.
“I have in my mind what kind of players I want and what kind of squad I want. But from yesterday to today we did good things, and it’s a big step for the player and the club. When I think back, players didn’t want to sign or continue but all those issues we don’t have now. We have to put the level higher. Our level is already a level up, so some players will have a problem with that, and we need to go up another level.”
A number of Bulut's signings have really improved this Cardiff squad. The likes of Goutas, Siopis, Karlan Grant, Josh Bowler, Ike Ugbo and Aaron Ramsey, before his injury, stepped in and made instant impacts.
Given his eye for a player has, until now, looked largely very good, that can only curry favour with the top brass ahead of the January window.
“
Sometimes it can also be one good player in the Turkish Superlig or Bundesliga cannot settle here," he added. "
So, it can go the opposite way. Most of the players have helped us well.
"All my networks are in Turkey and Europe, I’ve tried to use and bring players to the board. Our recruitment team is also working on bringing players in. Finances will be a key point for us, what we can do. I hope we can spend money on those players.”
Bulut concedes that finances might be an issue in the new year. Already he has poured cold water over the likes of Anastasios Bakasetas and Salih Ucan joining the club for that very reason. He believes the big clubs in the Turkish Superlig pay wages which are unattainable for the likes of Cardiff.
“
Turkey, I can compare with Turkish Superlig," he said of their wages. "Fo
r them, nearly the same ages. Fenerbahce, Trabzonspor, Besiktas, Galatasaray etc can pay more but I think the other teams are similar wages.”
