Trabzonspor forced to release Anastasios Bakasetas statement after ex-player claims 'agreement reached' with Cardiff CityEx-Trabzonspor player Serdar Bali claims a deal for him to move to Wales has already been agreed
By Glen Williams Turkish club Trabzonspor have been forced to release a statement regarding speculation surrounding Anastasios Bakasetas' future after an ex-player of the club claimed an "
agreement" had been reached for him to sign for Cardiff City.
Bakasetas has been a name on Cardiff's radar since the summer and a number of sources in Turkey have linked the Greek midfielder with a move to the Welsh capital in recent months.
Reports in Turkey stated that Bakasetas had refused two transfer offers from the Trabzon club and that Erol Bulut, who was the midfielder's manager at his former club Alanyaspor, was circling and eyeing his signature.
Now, in a bold move, the Turkish club have released the following statement: "
Some news sites and social media sites related to the new contract offer of our football player Anastasios Bakasetas The allegations in the media accounts do not reflect the truth. Unethical and speculative news like this harms both our club and our players."
It comes after Serdar Bali, who played as a midfielder for Trabzonspor between 1975 and 1980 and again between 185 and 1988, appeared to announce that a deal had been reached with Cardiff for his transfer.
“
According to the information I received, Bakasetas reached an agreement with Cardiff," Bali said. "
Of course, I don't know if someone will pay more for the signature and change their mind, these things happen.
"It is not worth talking about Bakasetas. The fault lies with Trabzonspor management. You signed at the beginning of last season, knowing that you will be idle at the end of the season. Then we could sell him."
Bulut has been asked a number of time about the potential signing of Bakasetas, 30, who has five goals and two assists for Trabzonspor from midfield this season, and has always reiterated his admiration for the player. Bulut has, however, stated that finances are a major obstacle.
"
I read it here and I read it every day in the Turkish press," he said when asked specifically about links to Bakasetas earlier this month. "
He is a great player. He would be a great addition for us. But it’s not possible to bring him here, because of his wage.
"First of all, it will cost money to take him out of Trabzon. Even if he was free it would not be possible for us to pay his wages. Like Salih Ucan. I have a good relationship with all of my ex-players. Of course I would like to sign many players here, but it's not possible to pay them.
"That’s not going to happen. He is too expensive. For us, it is not possible. There are many names we cannot bring here. I want always the best for my team, for Cardiff City. I am targeting players and I am pushing. But wanting it and doing it is two different thing. We want quality, good players in our team. We will push in January to get three or four players."
