The Opposition's Manager

Plymouth are currently without a manager after Steven Schumacher decided to leave to take the Stoke job.

Kevin Nancekivell is the caretaker manager.

He has been at the club for many years, first coaching with them in 2005.

This is the third time he has become caretaker manager. The other times were in 2013 and 2019.

Morgan Whittaker, formerly of Swansea, has ten goals and four assists this season.

Ryan Hardie missed their game at the weekend with concussion but could return for this game. He scored 13 goals for them last season and has six so far this season.

We have won three of our last five competitive games against Plymouth, with them winning the other two.

It should be said that we haven’t played them competitively since 2009.

That was the year of our last competitive meeting, when they won 1-0 against us at CCS in the Championship - that game was also on Boxing Day.

A couple of days ago, I thought the attendance was looking pretty poor for this match, considering it is on Boxing Day.
However, after yesterdays victory, I think quite a few more seats will be bought.

Hopefully a win, but Plymouth are fighting hard for every point. We often drop a point or three after a win.
I predict a draw.

Joe Edwards looking for Plymouth Argyle to build on mini-unbeaten run -

The Pilgrims will play the second of four games in 10 days over the Christmas period when they are away to Cardiff City on Boxing Day

Plymouth Argyle will look to extend their mini-unbeaten run in the Championship to four matches when they travel to South Wales to play Cardiff City on Boxing Day.

Cardiff came from behind to win 2-1 away to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday and moved up to 10th position, while Argyle recovered from falling 3-1 behind in the 62nd minute against Birmingham City at Home Park to draw 3-3. That result came after a 0-0 draw away to Queens Park Rangers and a 3-2 home defeat of Rotherham United in the final two games of Steven Schumacher's tenure as manager.

The Pilgrims will take on Cardiff without defender Dan Scarr as he completes a three-match suspension following his dismissal against QPR but there could be a return to the squad for Mustapha Bundu.

Plymouth Argyle have suffered a blow over the festive fixtures, with manager Steven Schumacher making the move to fellow Sky Bet Championship club Stoke City.

Plymouth are without an away win this season in 11 away games.

Schumacher had been the manager of the Pilgrims since 2021 and led the club to the League One title at the end of last season, as well as finishing as runners-up in the Papa John's Trophy.

Assistant manager Mark Hughes, First Team coach Peter Cavanagh and goalkeeper coach Darren Behcet have also departed the club.

While the Pilgrims search for their new manager, director of football Neil Dewsnip and First Team coach Kevin Nancekivell have taken interim charge.

The Pilgrims head to the Welsh capital currently sitting 17th in the Sky Bet Championship table.

Their last six fixtures have resulted in eight points, leaving them 13th in the form table.

Last time out, Plymouth faced Birmingham City at Home Park and showed character to come from 3-1 down to earn a 3-3 draw.

Ben Waine pulled a goal back in the 68th minute, before Morgan Whittaker added a late equaliser with 86 minutes on the clock.

Plymouth are without an away win this season.

Erol pre-Plymouth Argyle | We must be ready

Erol Bulut gave his thoughts ahead of our Boxing Day clash with Plymouth Argyle at CCS.
"They drew at home 3-3 against Birmingham City on Saturday, and as I've said before, no one game will be easy. Maybe we shall expect a game similar to what we had on Saturday, so we must be ready for this.

"They had a style that they played with their ex-coach - this doesn't go away immediately. For a few games, they will be the same.

"After a few games, with a new coach, then maybe they will change some things. I don't think they will change their style a lot, in my opinion. They will be similar to how they have played before."

I’m going for an ugly 2-0 (Ralls pen Grant ) win, where our defending saves the day again :bluebird:
Any sort of win needed as Leicester home next.
Haven’t Plymouth beat in the same fixture on Boxing Day at CCS? :geek:

First real chance. Cardiff have looked good so far and they build up down the left. Grant comes inside looking for a shot, his left-footed effort from outside the box is deflected and balloons over the goal. Corner kick to City.

It's taken short and Wintle's cross is deflected. Plymouth break upfield but the attack is stopped. Colwill then goes on a monster run, but a lack of support sees him tackled.
