So, we are moving into the January Transfer Window in 14th place and 5 points off the Play-off places...
We've seen the good, the bad and the ugly sides of Erol Bulut's new team and it's a good time to ask the question...

Expected flirting with relegation again. So happy with where we are at the moment.

Better than I expected so I'm not going to slate or cry about it. You have to be realistic not delusional. Before a ball was kicked knowing we couldn't buy players i said anything better than last seasons shambles will do me with most of the same players still there. Although we shall see what comes of January and if we push on or not. Eitherway I'd take where we are now if it was the last game of the season.

We are only 5 pts from play offs
On the basis that the second half of the season will be better than the first half we could be very close indeed

We were relegation fodder the last few seasons now we are mid-table. Improvement. We all want more, and it could have got worse, league one was a possibility.
One question is FFP was being banded around, how can we be anywhere near that with this squad?

Better than I expected.
Last season we should have got relegated, I honestly don’t see us being down there at the end of the season.
Also don’t see us being top six unless we have an unbelievable transfer window but nobody in their right mind would have genuinely expected top six pre-season.
This season was always about consolidation so we could push on next season.
We’re in a better place now than I thought we would be.

As expected, Cardiff now need to build a steady squad ready for a playoff push next season. This plan relies on funds being available in January with no excuses. Other option is for Tan to sell, although I can't see anybody buying us for the asking price, unless we can show some good form after a recruitment campaign.

Done better than expected. With fatigue setting in, and no players that can come in from the subs to freshen things up, we’ve hit that wall.
Everyone would have taken this at the start of the season.
However, if Bulut recruits right I don’t see why we can’t sneak that 6th spot if we go on a good run.
The ultimate goal though is to build on the first half of the season, finish top half. Finish top half would be a very good achievement, and then the right recruitment in the Summer should see us push for promotion the following season.
To add to that, I really feel the current bottom 3 in the prem, are not as good as the top 3 in the championship at the moment, which could also mean a weaker division next season.

We have done a lot better than expected but I fear we could be back down to where we thought we would be.
Not long ago I was thinking a good January window would see us pushing for a play off spot but now I see it as a need to avoid another disappointing season.

Well....we are not at the moment in a relegation dog fight like we were last season.
Personally I thought I would be ticking off the points until we got to safety (so 45ish) however I don't see that being a problem now unless we completely capitulate
As far as the manager goes I am still unsure if he is the right fit,a few transfer windows will confirm that.
Hopefully onwards and upwards.

Need to finish in top ten this season then push on next season. With financial backing we could be real contenders for promotion.
Sat Dec 30, 2023 1:59 pm
If we beat QPR then I will say a little better than I originally thought, but if we lose then we will start to drop just above bottom 3 and that would be only 3 Wins from 12 games, so we won’t really have done that well.
We are only about 4pts better off than this time last year and there are at least 10 teams who could make 6th place.

If anyone interested Cardiff are 67/1 on bet365 to get promoted (by any means)
Risk a fiver to buy next year's season ticket?

Getting as far as joint 5th in the table and then dropping like a stone is the biggest worry and hard to say how we are doing ?its another month yet before ramsey is back and is he going to be the answer?
I think everything depends on this window if we do not push the boat out on transfers i cannot see us progressing back up the table
and bulut needs a better game plan
we sit off teams and its so bloody annoying to watch no press and his substiution changes need rectifying but happy for bulut to stay and see how he does with his signings and reshuffles and tactics
So on the fence at the moment for me.

We are around where I would have expected us to be pre-season if I had known then Ramsey would only play 6 games in the first half of the season. There is even a train of thought that we may have over achieved without him. Had Ramsey been available for more games then almost certainly we would have accumulated more points and been higher in the league

Definitely exceeded any expectations, EB has done very well operating under difficult circumstances. I've said die a while we are 6 players off a pushing squad, January isn't a great window but it's sensible for VT to invest given our position and then invest again in the summer for a proper go. Re: FFP, I've no idea where we are at the moment but we were saying close to the wind last summer. We've got the Millers settlement as fresh working capital as I understand, Keith maybe better placed as to an insight on this in regards to where we are and whether FFP will be a limiting factor in Jan?

Slightly worse than what I expected.
But expecting better thing to come.

Setting the bar a bit low on this forum. We signed Ramsey, two Greek internationals, what looked like three quality loan players in Grant, Bowler and Panzo and had Collins and Robinson back. That is a massive improvement on what we had last season and I expected better. We may only be 5 points off the play offs but we are 14th and the top five are well clear, we have lost more than we won.
I know we had injuries to OD'owda and Ramsey but all clubs have problems. I thought we would do better.

A lot of ups at start of season , and a lot of downs lately , desperate for new players now , then let’s see what we are like in a year from now , some really good comments about Ramsey etc . Also sometimes wonder where we would be now if lamouchi stayed ?
