Cardiff have Sold 403 tickets for Sheffield Wednesday away tomorrow / But it is pay on the day and not on tv.

Allocation 3,500.

City took in the Championship just before Xmas 854 fans to Wednesday.

Karydas said Cardiff would field a strong team against the Owls at Hillsborough, but one player who will be absent is Dimitrios Goutas. The Greek defender revealed on social media this week that his grandmother had passed away and the club have afforded him extended leave.

"He had a problem with his grandmother, he lost her," Karydas said of Goutas. "He was in a bad mood. He got some extra days off. He will come back tomorrow but will not participate on Saturday."

Of O'Dowda, Karydas said: "Not for this Saturday. But we hope for him to be as soon as possible with us. He is an important player. We don’t want to rush him and have a second injury which will keep him out for a longer period.

"Rambo has surprised me. Each day I see him work very hard and we try to follow the same, like Callum, and not rush. We need the players to be healthy so they can give us their best when they come back.

"He is not for this Saturday. I think with Aaron it takes a longer period."

TEAM NEWS:

Striker Grant is out injured.

Cardiff are without Ramsey & O’Dowda.

Ramsey and O’Dowda have played only 6 games this season out of 28 League and Cup games.

O’Dowda is expected back this month (January).

Ramsey will start light training next week.

The Opposition's Manager

Danny Rohl was appointed Sheffield Wednesday manager in October.

At the age of 34, he is the youngest manager in the EFL.

This is his first management job but he has previously been a coach with RB Leipzig, Southampton and Bayern Munich.

He also spent time as assistant manager of the Germany national team.

Opposition Dangerous Players

We obviously know Callum Paterson and Will Vaulks from their time with us.

Anthony Musaba scored against us a couple of weeks ago.

Head To Head

We beat Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough in the Championship just two weeks ago.

That was one of three wins against them in the last five meetings, with them winning the other two.

The Sheffield Wednesday FA Cup tie is an excellent opportunity to throw in a pinch of kids.

Start Turner in goal, he is the future, not the useless Runarsson, who can return to Arsenal.

Slot in Antwi and or Joel Colwill. Play Evans too if he is available and not gone to Mansfield yet, possibly Ashford and or Crole too

Was thinking it would be nice to see antwi and Joel in midfield for this

Danny Rohl has issued an injury update on Sheffield Wednesday trio Will Vaulks, Callum Paterson and Akin Famewo.

Sheffield Wednesday have endured a number of injuries over the busy Christmas period, with the team really looking down to the bare bones in last night’s win over Hull City.

Danny Rohl was boosted by the registration of Momo Diaby though, who made his first appearance since suffering an injury on his debut back in August.

While they also ended 2023 with a brilliant win over Preston North End, their injury list took a further hit when both Akin Famewo and Will Vaulks were forced off in the first half.

Their starting line-up against Hull saw Liam Palmer pushed into midfield, while Michael Ihiekwe took Famewo’s place at the back.

One player that could really come in handy given his versatility is Callum Paterson, who has been sidelined since Boxing Day.

Rohl has now provided an update on all three players as they look to make their comebacks very soon.

Speaking to The Star, the German coach said: “I think Will will be out for a minimum of two weeks because he has a small injury in his muscle.

“But Akin looks good, he was not available today because it was too close, but he will not be too long before he is back.

On Paterson, Röhl said: “I think it could be that he is available for Cardiff or maybe we wait until after Cardiff. We must be careful and we will wait to have a talk with the doctors.”

Not convinced we see this as a priority this season.I think we'll rest as many first teamers as we can afford to.Also, Goutas must be a doubt if he's gone back to Greece this week.

I want to win every game we play in, but to be honest I don't have any excitement for this game and wouldn't risk important players.

My team would be;

Turner
Romeo, Panzo, Fagan-Walcott, Semenyo
R Colwill, Rinomhota, Adams, J Colwill
Robinson, Crole

Its not an amazing team but Ugbo, Grant, Ramsey & Odowda are injured and the rest of the team surely need to be rested for Leeds which will be a big test

Sheffield Wednesday go up against Cardiff City in the FA Cup this weekend.

Sheffield Wednesday take a break from Championship action after a congested festive period.

The likeliest debutant vs Cardiff City seems to be Joey Phuthi.

The 18-year-old wideman made his debut as a late substitute away at Coventry City and has been on the bench for the last two.

Along with Phuthi, Brazilian full-back Siqueira, who joined in the summer after a successful trial period, has been on the bench of late.

He’s been an unused substitute in the last three and looks poised to feature vs Cardiff, potentially starting.

Pierce Charles
Charles currently plays for the Owls’ U21s side as well as Northern Ireland’s U19s.

He’s yet to make his first-team debut for Sheffield Wednesday but he could be in line for a surprise start this weekend, with Cameron Dawson unlikely to start and Rohl perhaps likely to favour academy man Charles over loan goalkeeper Devis Vasquez.

Mallik Wilks
The attacker has started just once under Rohl, with three other substitute appearances to his name.

With Rohl likely to rest the likes of Anthony Musaba and Djeidi Gassama, Wilks could be given a chance to show what he can do.

Ashley Fletcher
Fletcher has been a regular in-game change for Rohl. He’s featured in 10 of the last 12 but has only started the one, and he impressed in the last outing, grabbing the assist for Marvin Johnson’s opener.

He too could be given a chance to impress the Sheffield Wednesday boss this weekend.

Danny Röhl's side will be hoping to continue the progress of two Championship wins on the spin either side of the new year by beating Cardiff and securing a place in the fourth round of the FA Cup. The Welsh side were recent visitors to S6 and came away with a late 2-1 league win despite Wednesday having lead and had the better of the clash.

The match will kick-off in the evening slot of 5.30pm despite it not featuring on any traditional UK television schedules, leaving some supporters - not least those scrambling to get back to South Wales on public transport - scratching their heads as to why it has been given an evening start.

As was confirmed in the initial announcement of the kick-off time, the match has in fact been selected for international television broadcast and will be shown on ESPN+.

We should pick our strongest available team for the FACup as it was our greatest achievement and we have a better chance of winning it than the Championship! Remember we got to the Final against Portsmouth and Liverpool in the League cup and with a little luck could have won both! We have been embarrassing for years when losing to lower league clubs because we put out a lot of reserve players!

We lost to a Premier League team in the FA Cup in the last two seasons.

But don’t let the facts get in the way.

What about the previous 10 years know all? I can remember losing to team like Northampton,Gillingham,Burton Albion in the last few years. My first game following Cardiff City was in 1961 and our efforts in Cup competitions have been genuinely pathetic when we have picked weak teams, we are not a top Premiership club and haven’t been since the 1920’s!

You don't half get 'arsey' when corrected...

For the factual record, Cardiff City have never played in the Premiership; not even England-based Scottish Cup Winners Berwick Rangers have achieved that; a bit like us winning the FA Cup...! ;)

Could you have possibly have gotten mixed up with the English Premier League; in which we have spent two seasons...? :ayatollah:

Owls midfielder Tyreeq Bakinson has been moved out to League One Charlton Athletic in a deal that will see him loaned for the remainder of the season. It was reported by The Star this morning that Bakinson would undertake a medical with The Valley club and all seems to have gone well.

The gangly 25-year-old started Wednesday's first two league matches of the season but fell out of favour for the most part before impressing in cameos from the bench in recent weeks. Signed from Bristol City last summer, he played a walk-on part in the Owls' promotion campaign from the third tier last season and has to date played 42 times in Wednesday colours.

The move serves to clear further space in the squad after John Buckley's season-long loan from Blackburn Rovers was cut short earlier this week. It leaves the Owls lighter in terms of numbers in the middle of midfield in the immediate future, with Will Vaulks and Newcastle United loanee Jeff Hendrick injured and George Byers one match into a three-game suspension. Momo Diaby is back fit after a long lay-off, while Liam Palmer has earned plaudits for his shift back into the middle of the pitch.

I’m happy to provide you with the information you asked for.

In the last ten years, we have been knocked out of the FA Cup by a lower league team than us on just two occasions - Shrewsbury Town in 2016 and Gillingham in 2019.

Hope this helps.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl: "I spoke to the players today and it is all about keeping momentum, this is important. But for sure there will be some players that will have to look at and consider how good it is for them to play. If there is a risk, then it makes no sense to play them, this is for sure. We want to keep the momentum, to show again a good performance and to try to come into the next round. This is what we want.

"We have to find a little balance. We want the best players on the pitch who are available and also to look after the players who it may be best to give a rest to because the last weeks have been very intense for everybody."
