Sheffield Wednesday 4 Cardiff City 0
Cardiff miss two penalties and Alnwick makes some great saves.
Cardiff City assistant manager Nikolaos Karydas:
“LETS TAKE THE POSITIVES FROM DAY”
“I cannot say we are disappointed with the performance, because the scoreline doesn't reflect how the team played," Niko began. "Today, we saw many positive things, especially in the second half. We are also happy with the performance of the younger players that we had with us and we saw that they can be part of our team in the future. We keep moving forward with the positive things.
"In football, you have to expect everything. [Having two penalties saved] is a part of the game. Maybe if we scored, it would be the opposite, but we have to move forward to the next game against Leeds United."
Nikolaos Karydas
City created numerous chances throughout the contest, with the likes of Rubin Colwill, Callum Robinson and Cian Ashford all going close.
"It's a part of the game," Niko added. "In football though, if you don't score, you lose the game. You have to score to win, but we say that we are satisfied from the picture that the players show, especially players that didn't play many minutes during the season.
"The players tried their best and played well, but sometimes, you play against an in-form goalkeeper on the other side and the goalkeeper today was good and had the luck too."

I agree with him that the performance was good. There was actually some very good football from us and we created a lot of chances.
But he didn’t acknowledge that our finishing in front of goal was awful. Which it was, that’s what cost us.
Can forgive the bad defending because the defence only had one first team defender in it. The rest were two wingers, a midfielder and a young defender who we all know is not good enough.
Also interesting that he says the goalkeeper was “lucky”. Bulut also says a lot that the opposition were “lucky”. English is obviously not their first language so to be fair to them, they may not mean it as it sounds.

In fairness the score line completely flattered Wednesday
Unfortunately we weren’t good enough in either box so that’s why we lost heavily
Playing with 2 attacking wing backs we created loads of opportunities and maybe this is the way forward(when we actually play with a proper defence) that is

Did you watch the game?
If so, a couple of questions..
Were you pleased with the chances we created? Were you pleased with the way we played the ball?
Because anyone who understands football would be.
Even the Wednesday fans are saying it was an undeserved 4-0.
Yes we didn’t did take chances, but don’t mistake that for a bad performance. Because it simply wasn’t.

I can understand saying we played well but lost by the odd goal but the scoreline was 0-4, end of story. No amount of people saying we played well when we lose by that scoreline is ever going to convince me that we played well today until the FA are giving us a bye into the next round because we "played well". No we didn't play well, we lost by 4 goals and are out of the FA cup for another year because we were total shite with only a couple of players actually trying to do something besides watch SW hammer us 0-4. The closest we came to scoring was when their defender almost put the ball in his own net or when the keeper dropped the ball.
When people look back nobody is going to say "yeah they lost 0-4 but they played well", people are going to say "OMFG what a shower of shite losing 0-4 to SW who were bottom of the league".
I'm usually the one telling people to calm down after a loss but not today, we were awful and it hurts to get humiliated like that by so called professional football players who have no pride in themselves never mind Cardiff City, with a few exceptions.
Maybe i'll feel differently tomorrow, certainly hope so.

Was' nt pleased to loose 4 nil missing 2 penalties out of the cup again that outways any positive spin you can put on it.
If i stood up on the bus on the way back from sheffield and said look on the bright side there where lots of positives to take from our long trip and tonights game and we will be home before morning
I think i would be thrown off the bus
Sitting in an armchair you maybe able to evaluate the game my comments from how the fans that where there.

A scoreline doesn't always tell the story? 4-0 suggests we were hammered but in reality we had enough chances to win game easily! You cannot account for missing 2 pens or scoring own goal? The way people are talking we didn't do sfa in game but the stats tell different story.... no one can deny Wednesday were crap team yet scored 4 goals !! Who said football is a funny old game?
Sun Jan 07, 2024 12:27 am
Monday morning - I would get players to take pens in training to start off with - Whitts was a master of this .
We are the best at set pieces in this League and maybe overall - We have this one covered .
Sort out these players who are reported to have agreed or wanting to come to Us

Some need to take their rose tinted glasses off after yesterday's performance. "There were positives" I read this morning?
Yes we created chances, yes we completed passes, yes we ran around like headless chickens, yes we earnt two penalties (badly taken), took 50 throw ins, had 10 free kicks....... blah blah.
Stats don't win games, the sooner people realise the better. Fans paid decent money yesterday to travel, support and encourage their team. Pity the management of Cardiff City didn't respect the competition, putting out a team of misfits, has beens and men playing out of position? Devaluing a fast fading competition, once one of THE best in the world.
What's the point of entering a 'team' if you're not even going to try to actually win the game. Picking a sub standard team, with hardly any of our first team? Don't gt me started on 'they need a rest!' ...WE all do, they are professional sportsmen, without another competitive game for seven days? Did we hear the likes of Dwyer, Murray, Earnshaw, Alston, Evans spouting the same words? NO CHANCE they loved to play the game!
You'll remember the season we got to Wembley? That brilliant Whitts free kick at Leicester? His Amazing cameo goal at Boro? The thrill of watching the bluebirds run out at Wembley, semi final, beating Barnsley
Cardiff City at Wembley in an F.A.Cup final against Pompey? You couldn't make it up! We were there, and the envy of our friends a little further down the M4 corridor. Another day to relish with our AMAZING army of fans. Fairplay to Dave Jones, he got us there, picking sensible teams every round, that could win matches.....If he'd started with Rambo in the final.... who knows?
The disdain shown by the club this year is unforgivable. Everyone that travelled yesterday, should be re-inbursed. A total shambles and waste of their hard earned money, watching some just gobbling up their wages.
For management to say there were 'positives', just defies belief? Yes, it was good to see some youngsters get a run out, but with a distinct lack of stability through the spine? If Goutas is out Mcguiness surely has to play,or Panzo at centre half? That defence would struggle to keep a good district side out.
The cup isn't helped by the sponsors who sell the game for greed around the world. Refusing to show or stream a live match on UK TV is absolutely criminal. It's our competition, yet they prefer to sell out to the likes of, Belgium, New Zealand and Saudi Arabia?
As for us mere mortals who support Cardiff City. We can't get to Sheffield due to a multitude of reasons, and want to watch OUR team. .Why do we bother finding streams, panic that we miss part or most of the game on here?! .After all, Cardiff City FC had no REAL intention, of playing a side, capable, of winning a football match yesterday.
How refreshing to see the likes of Stoke and Brighton fielding first teams, going at each other hammer & tongs, taking great penalties and chances. Happy to WIN a game, and progress to the next round!
Anyone happy with that show yesterday (including management and owners), needs to give their head a serious wobble! I won't mention the cash involved (£105,000) getting through to the next round, and more beyond., Perhaps we're not in such a bad postion financially, as some would have us know? Do we really need the cash after all Mr Dalman / Tan?!

Moat of these comments are no doubt from people who didn't even watch the game.

The BBC highlights are very misleading as they show City playing well. Which they obviously DIDN’T as they managed to lose in a pathetic manner. On to next week, I suppose.

Football is a simple game .
Put the ball in the opposition net and keep it out of yours . Nothing else matters .

MMM played well and lost 4-0? God help us if we play badly then. The record books will never say we lost 4-0 but it was a good performance, they only say we got stuffed. Nobody should be happy with theat.

Thanks guys, i can rest easy now & actually watch Arsenal miss almost as many chances as us, but they need to miss a couple of penalties to be on our level of ineptitude.

Imagine a front free of Robinson, Havertz and Nunez.
The stuff of nightmares.

Takes a good header by defender to score own goal and show strikers how its done... 1nil pool

Another positive... Arsenal have modelled their game on ours.
