What a listen this is. Jay is a class act. I'd love to see him get involved with the club; it'll never happen due to "the way he is" but you can tell his mind works differently to most and it's nice to hear how fond he still is of the club.

Few takeaways for me...

1. The Squad in 2008

Some of the names...

No. Pos. Nation Player
1 GK Finland FIN Peter Enckelman
2 DF Scotland SCO Kevin McNaughton
3 DF Northern Ireland NIR Tony Capaldi
4 MF Scotland SCO Gavin Rae
5 DF England ENG Darren Purse (Captain)
6 DF Hungary HUN Gábor Gyepes
7 MF England ENG Peter Whittingham
8 FW England ENG Jay Bothroyd
10 MF Republic of Ireland IRL Stephen McPhail (Vice-Captain)
11 MF Wales WAL Paul Parry
12 DF England ENG Roger Johnson
13 GK England ENG Tom Heaton (on loan from Manchester United)
16 MF Wales WAL Joe Ledley (Vice-Captain)
18 FW England ENG Michael Chopra (on loan from Sunderland)
19 MF England ENG Riccardo Scimeca
21 MF Republic of Ireland IRL Mark Kennedy
23 DF Wales WAL Darcy Blake
29 MF Scotland SCO Chris Burke
31 DF Wales WAL Adam Matthews
44 FW Scotland SCO Ross McCormack

Quality. I don't see how any off that list doesn't get into our 11. But the biggest thing that stands out, more than the better quality... is the amount of CHARACTER in that squad. This current squad wouldn't hold up in the dressing room. A sign of the times? Or recruitment? Dave Jones knew how to assemble a squad of character to be fair!

2. Dave Jones

Probably my fave era watching Cardiff, highlighted above, but Jonesy has to take alot of credit for his work. Jay seems to be very direct and opinionated, specifically towards management; but sung Jones' praises. Not the fashionable choice, but my fave manager for us. Wonder what he's up to nowadays? (Just checked - he's a financial advisor, aged 67! What a waste)

3. The Relationship with Chopra

I always assumed they didn't get on. Seemed to be the opposite. What a pairing they were. Interesting how Jay said that Jones gave him freedom to roam.

Really enjoyed that. Be nice to see if he could get Dave Jones, Chopra, or anyone on that list of players above! Top work as usual by the central club!

It was a very strong league in that era. Just having a look, some top quality here....

Newcastle walked it with 101 points, and I remember them absolutely schooling us, twice. They had Nicky Butt and Geremi on the bench! Kevin Nolan and Co.

West Brom were second. 11 points behind but 12 points clear of 3rd place Forest (Earnshaw, Gunter, Andy Cole! Nathan Tyson and co.) - I recall them having a bit of a meltdown but can't fully remember.

We were 4th. Leicester were 5th - that was also a very strong team (Andy King, Steve Howard, Matty Fryatt {what a player}, DJ Campbell.

Blackpool 6th. We all know what they went on to do.

Jacks 7th (Pretty much their Premiership core team)

8th Sheff Utd (Gary Speed!!, Brian Howard, Paddy Kenny, Kyle Walker, Darius Henderson)

I agree that City team were great to watch and they were full of characters. I’m not looking at them through rose tinted specs though. They went missing on the odd occasion.

I met Mick on a couple of occasions as a company I worked for, use to sponsor the LMA . This meant we had a few golf days a year . Many managers turned up for the day. Outside of football he came across really well , very funny and good company However he must change when he is in the players as you very rarely here a good thing said about him from players
