Ward stumbling block

Cardiff and Sheffield United's reported interest in Leicester City stopper Danny Ward is complicated by the Premier League and Championship loan rules.

The Premier League states top-flight clubs are permitted to have only two temporary loans in their squad and the Blades already have a duo on their books; Luke Thomas - on loan from the Foxes too - and James McAtee, from Manchester City.

If the Blades want to sign Ward on loan, one of the above would have to return to their parent club. The same would apply to the Bluebirds; as a Championship club, they are allowed five loans in their squad throughout the season, which they currently have in Karlan Grant, Ike Ugbo, Josh Bowler, Jonathan Panzo and Alex Runarsson. So something, somewhere, would have to give. If Cardiff were to firm up their interest in Ward, Runarsson would almost certainly return to Arsenal.

Annis, that does make it look like we could be in the driving seat above Sheff Utd.

We are allowed 7 on loan players over the age of 21 but can only have 5 in our match day squad.

Surely we will have a few gaps as Panzo and that rubbish goalie are off back to their clubs.

That's what I thought

What price we buy him outright. I think £1m would be enough for a goalkeeper who has not made a championship squad all season :ayatollah:

Not fussed on Ward. Personally happy with Alnwick for this season at least and should look to strengthen other areas

What if Alnwick gets injured or suspended?

I’m not saying we shouldn’t go for a keeper. I’m assuming Ward is on Premier League wages (or close to) so he wouldn’t be brought in to sit on the bench. With regards to him starting, I don’t think it would be worth paying his wages when IMO Alnwick will do just as good a job

Why would Ward want to come to Cardiff for to sit on the bench like he has a lot in his career. No better than Alnick
