Umut Nayir

:bluebird: It appears according to a couple of reoorts that we are “battling with WBA” to purchase Umut Nayir aged 30yrs.
A 6’3” centre forwardpresently with Fernabahce in Turkey.
I guess there may be some truth in it. As Bulut said we can’t put all our efforts into getting Moore and have no other irons in the fire.
Also, of course, there is the Turkey connction. (On the other hand it could be a load of old twaddle! - dont shoot the messanger. :bluebird:

Turkish reporter Sabuncuoglu has said on X that the second-tier pair are both keen on Fenerbahce striker Umut Nayir. He only joined the Super Lig giants in the summer but amid a struggle for form and game time, it seems a move could be on the cards and West Brom and Cardiff City are interested.

Nayir returned 18 goals in 33 games with strugglers Umraniyespor last season, earning a Turkey call-up and a Fenerbahce move. However, he’s played only 12 times for the club this season, scoring none.

Nil goals in 12 games this season make him a good match for the strikers we currently have on the City’s books!!

Depends how many minutes he's had in total. 12 games not always a fair reflection. If it totals to about 180mins total

I have a feeling we’ll be linked to many Turkish players or players that play in Turkey this window, whether they’re true or not is another matter.

He scored for Turkey against Wales in the Euro Qualifiers last June.

That pretty much sums it up, Ned; and we know Erol Bulut is looking at the Turkish League for reinforcements...

We need to be careful though. If this one doesn't come off, the usual mob who offer little but criticism will think it's all made up again...

Little do they understand that even 'done' deals fall apart at the last minute for a variety of reasons...

That's not a bad return for a big fella; and I feel sure he would have a lot of 'assists' too...! :ayatollah:

Cardiff City Eyeing Up £850K-Rated Attacker With 118 Career Goals -

Cardiff City are set to battle it out with fellow Championship promotion hopefuls West Bromwich Albion over the signing of Fenerbahce centre-forward Umut Nayir, according to reports in Turkey.

After an excellent start to the 2023/24 campaign, the Welsh outfit have struggled to find consistency in their league form and have picked up 11 wins and 11 losses in England’s second tier. This has left Erol Bulut’s side ninth in the table but just three points off the final playoff place, currently occupied by Sunderland.

Cardiff City’s primary issue this season has been struggling to put the ball in the net. Bulut’s men have scored 34 times in 26 matches, the tenth-worst record in the Championship this campaign and the worst of all clubs in the division’s top ten teams.

Furthermore, 14 different players have scored for the Bluebirds this season. However, the side’s top goalscorer is Kion Etete, who has recorded just five in all competitions this term.
Nevertheless, as per the latest reports, Cardiff City are keen to bolster their attacking department this month. According to Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, via West Brom News, Cardiff are keen to sign Turkey international Umut Nayir.

Nayir has struggled for game-time this season with Fenerbahce, having played just 120 minutes, spread across 12 appearances, which comes to 10 minutes per game on average. Unsurprisingly, Nayir has failed to score a single goal.

However, the 30-year-old has proven he can find the net, having bagged 118 goals in 332 matches throughout his career, with his market value sitting at merely £850,000, as per Transfermarkt, which has seemingly piqued the interest of Cardiff.
