BAKASETAS UPDATE AND BLUEBIRDS IN TURKISH HEADLINES

Tue Jan 09, 2024 1:18 pm

Turkish media explodes with Cardiff City transfer news as new players linked and big Bakasetas update given

The Bluebirds are making the news over in Turkey

By Glen Williams

Cardiff City's January transfer window is hitting the headlines over in Turkey.

Given Erol Bulut, who made his name in management in Turkish football after a distinguised playing career which took in some of the country's top clubs, is Bluebirds boss, it's easy to see just why there is such interest over there.

In the lead-up to the winter window, Bulut himself admitted he would be using his contacts in Turkey, Germany and Greece in order to supplement his squad - just as he did with the signings of Greek duo Manolis Siopis and Dimitrios Goutas, both of whom have been crucial cogs in the wheel this season, in the summer - and if reports are to be believed, the Bluebirds boss is actively recruiting from his old stomping ground in the Super Lig.

In recent days, new names have been linked and a number of updates regarding the long-standing pursuit of Greece captain Anastasios Bakasetas have been issued.

Here, we take a look at what's been said in the last 48 hours...

Umut Nayir linked

Fenerbahce striker Umut Nayir is the latest Turkish player to be linked with a move to the Welsh capital.

Wales striker Kieffer Moore is considered the Bluebirds' No.1 target in this window, but it is an area of such concern that Bulut is lining up more than one target for that position.

The Cardiff manager said that he would have an option "B, C and D" in this window in the eventuality that Moore stays at Bournemouth or opts for a move elsewhere.

And now media Sports Digitale's renowned transfer journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu claims Cardiff and West Brom are monitoring the Turkey international in this window.

Nayir scored 17 goals in 31 Super Lig appearances last year while on loan at Ümraniyespor from Eyüpspor, a run of form which led to him earning a call-up to the national team last year. His one goal in his four appearances actually came against Wales out in Samsunspor last summer during Turkey's 2-0 win.

He earned a move to Fenerbahce in the summer but has played 12 times for the Turkish giants without scoring a goal. It would seem he could be on his way out this month.

Enis Bardhi thrown into mix

Erol Bulut is also keen to address the lack of creativity which appears to be stifling City's attacking play this season, particularly given the injury to Aaron Ramsey which has kept him out for far longer than anyone initially anticipated.

And reports in Turkey and North Macedonia have linked Cardiff to Trabzonspor midfielder Enis Bardhi, who appears to be out of favour.

He's not started a Super Lig game since October 23 and rumours in Turkey suggest he could be on his way out this month. And North Macedonian press, via Time Balkan, report Bulut is keen on Bardhi and has indeed already made contact with Trabzonspor regarding a potential transfer. Like Bakasetas, Bardhi is another former team-mate of Manolis Siopis.

German side Union Berlin have also been heavily linked with the playmaker, who can also play on the left wing. He transferred to Trabzon after five successful seasons with Spanish side Levante.

The North Macedonia international has scored nine goals and provided two assists in 57 matches for Trabzonspor, where he has a contract until June 2025.

Siopis 'trying to convince' Bakasetas

The Anastasios Bakasetas merry-go-round continues to hurtle at full speed this month.

Earlier this week it was claimed that Besiktas had agreed a deal to sign the 30-year-old playmaker, however, Beyaz Football editor Mehmet Batuhan Ağır later posted that he had spoken with Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan and he denied such a deal was in place.

Agir wrote: "I asked: 'President, is the news true?' He said, 'There is no such situation.'

I know i go in the transfer window like a nuns knickers but only because i want the best for us, so nice to hear hopefully some positive news.

Thanks for update and hopefully something comes from all the speculation.

Monty, from experience, I know you only want the best and to be kept up to speed, so hopefully this news will raise spirits somewhat...

No one is saying any deals are 'done' but we must appreciate the club are trying to improve the squad; something they can only do by adding 'better' players...

There are moves in the making and as usual, some will surprise us. For me, the news that Bakasetas is still in the mix is a big boost but only time will tell if it comes off...! :ayatollah:

Fingers crossed, all areas we need improvement

I think an important issue here is that, over the years, we have obtained some players quickly and, in fairness, these players were not the standard that we need for a promotion push. We got some of these players quickly because no one else wanted them!

What we are now seeking is quality and because we are looking at quality several clubs are looking at the same players. Good Players = lots of interest and this goes with the territory. As a result, some of the signings will take longer

Quite true. It will take a few windows to fully strengthen the team but with his contacts I feel quietly confident that Bulut will be able to put together a much more competive group of players than we've had here for some time. Exciting times ahead but for now we just have to be a bit patient.

I'm not sad enough to trail through and find quotes. But your bum chum very much has. And I wouldn't be surprised if you hadn't too.

This is what annoys people like me. Not the rumours, Your silly posts.

The rest of what you say is very much common sense. It doesn't need to be said. Just to justify your post.

You don't need to pretend you're in the know. We all know you're golden.

I think you should consider the original poster of the three 'signings' did so in good faith and through a 'source' many on here, including me, know to be far more right than wrong; even in these secretive times...

Perhaps, and this is only a suggestion, you should back off yourself until the remaining 22 days of the January Transfer Window are over; or at least post with some restraint, eh...?

The one thing you admit/refer to in your crass post above, is that I myself have changed my tone since the original information came out...

That's called 'working with the information we have' and, as with anything, things can, will and do change. I never hide from that.. ! ;)

Yes you have changed. You are learning. Well done.

Very aggressive. You can probably get away with insulting people on here because you’re part of the ‘clique’.

Anyone else starts abusing and they get an automatic ban. Easy to hide behind a screen and run your mouth off. Sadly, that’s what people like you thrive off.

Well, the replies to this topic have taken it in a different direction

In terms of the actual topic, it’s obvious that Bakasetas would be a quality signing for anyone at this level. It seems the rumours that he was going to Besiktas were not correct. He has reportedly said himself that he doesn’t want to stay in Turkey and he’s also turned down Panathinaikos in Greece.

But I do think this is a difficult deal to get done. The transfer fee is affordable but his wages will be the issue. Obviously we’ve moved out Panzo. Should we also sell Callum Robinson then it could be possible.

But I won’t get my hopes up, there are a lot of clubs interested and not sure we can match their wage offer.

No need for me to hide lad so don't you worry about that.
And as long as folk have a go at Rog or anyone else who keeps a forum on football running by printinting what they're told I will say my bit. Of course you could belong to the rats homophobic clique. LMFHAO.
