Defender Cardiff interested in bringing in on loan:

Tue Jan 16, 2024 4:13 pm

Luton Town defender Ryan Giles has emerged as a loan target for former club Cardiff City during the January transfer window, TEAMtalk understands.

Left-back Giles became Luton‘s club-record signing when he joined the Premier League newcomers from Wolverhampton Wanderers last summer for a reported fee of around £5million.

However, the 24 year/ old has been in and out of the side under manager Rob Edwards so far this season due to the impressive form of Alfie Doughty down the left flank.

This is some good news if we can get him in.

I thought he was a winger? Or am I mixing him up with someone else we had on loan

We used him as a winger. Played wing back for Blackburn (I think) and then Luton.

Think he started as a winger but we certainly used him as an effective wing back. Very good crosser.

I'd have him back for a month just so he could skool a side that forgotten how to cross a ball. Seriously though,he would be the perfect foil for Keifer Moore should he return.

Would be brilliant if we could get him in.

A little unlucky not to be playing for Luton, but Doughty (another player we had on loan) is doing well.

As has already been proven when he set up a KM goal with a beauty of a cross up at Blackpool a couple of years ago.

Pretty sure on efl highlights show the other day the host was interviewing a manager after the the game (might have been Ipswich or West brom, really can't remember which club) and he mentioned the rumours about said club signing Ryan Giles on loan. The said manager wouldn't comment.
We are not the only club after him so I think it's a slim chance for us. I really hope we do sign him though as we could really do with him

Why a slim chance ? We could be top of his list of clubs he wants to play for.
He’s played here before, seemed to enjoy himself. I’ve not seen any negative comments from him about city….

Looks better on the CV if he goes to Ipswich and gets promoted.

Thought so. Brilliant crosser of a ball if i remember. Him and Kieffer would be great. They must have played in the same side at some point but i cant remember

Would be an excellent signing, and a statement of intent. However - the only issue, judging from Luton’s Twitter, the only players they have in that position is Giles and Doughty, so they are doubting there is anything in this.

No idea though - maybe they have someone coming in from that position

Giles is a winger without a doubt.
Issue these days with 'modern' football is that managers like to coach the flare and attacking intent out of natural wingers and insist that they cover back and defend as priority.

This is what happened with O'Dowda as one example and we may see the same with Tanner. A load of bollox IMO.
