The F.A.Cup 2024

Can't understand our mindset in putting out that side in the third round at Sheffield.
We're not going down, we're most definitely not going up this season.

To 'rest' players with just an odd fixture in January
was absolute madness, a mistake by management and the club. With just a couple of additions to our
"defence" that day, Mcguiness, and a Ralls for 60 minutes, we probably would have won that game. A decent home draw next round and the potential to pull a lucrative tie against a big team, home or away

A decent cup run this season would have been good for moral and mindset, also good for supporters. Remembering our third round against a then top of the table Leeds, games against Man City and Everton at the old girl' NInian. Not forgetting the trips to Wembley for the Barnsley semi final, and final against Portsmouth. All brilliant days out despite the result against Pompey (Jones plays Rambo that day ...who knows?)

Most premier and indeed championship clubs have treated the competition with respect this season, fielding their strongest available sides, hoping to progress. Financially £105,000 for beating Wednesday, £120,00 fourth round, £225,000 fourth round, £450,00 through the quarter finals, £1 million semi final winners.
From our selected team a coupe of weeks back, we obviously don't need the money?!!?

Hats off to County and Bristol who really gave it a shot against West Ham last night, another good payday, big crowd,tv rights. Good to see a championship side tackling, putting a foot in,getting in a sides face, playing with tempo on the front foot, against far better opposition. Something that was sadly lacking in our display against Leeds last week!
Personally I love the F.A. Cup, it's very disappointing that we're not still in the competition, would have been nice to have something to look forward to this season.

For anyone thinking the competition doesn't mean anything anymore? Take a look at premier league Newcastle, who fielded their first team at Sunderland. Look at their delight from the side, management, coaches, and more importantly their fans, after victory at The Stadium Of Light.

Perhaps next season eh Mr Bulut?!

I agree. For years we have not treated any cup competition with respect and its a kick in the teeth for those who travel. I remember listening to the tie at Macclesfield when we fielded probably the weakest side ever. When they announced the team I thought they were reading out the oppositions team because at first i didnt recognise most of the names. It was virtually the under 21 side. I rushed straight up the bookies and put a tenner at 5-1 on Macclesfield. At least Malky had the excuse of going for automatic promotion

I also agree when was the last we did what bristol did take 9,000 away fans to any ground and outplay them in both ties and win

Great Post, I thought the exact same thing when I saw the team announcement, Bulut thinks he's Pep at times but has little to show for it.

The FA cup still means a lot to us fans so hopefully he'll learn from it next season if he's still here.

You can’t beat the Glory the FACUP can bring especially if it’s just a boring season.

It gets everyone going.

Was a good chance for us.

A good example of this clubs lack of ambition, and they couldn't give a shit about the fan base.

Totally agree with this. Sick and tired of the clubs attitude to the Cup competitions. It stinks to high heaven.

I felt so sorry for our fans up at Hillsborough. What a joke not even playing any bonafide centre backs.

Well Cardiff, if you keep treating these old cup competitions with contempt, what does that say about your feelings towards your own loyal fan base!?

It absolutely sucks and its high time the mindset and attitude changed. That 4-0 defeat destroyed any momentum we had despite the changes to personnel for that game.

If you're going down that road, then we (as a club) are not alone, as I could name loads of clubs who have 'disrespected' the FA Cup in the Premier League era... ;)

Agreed, its different for each club depending on their league situation. Realistically Cardiff will not get promoted or relegated, so why not give the fans something to enjoy with a good cup run after the misery of the last few seasons. Just my opinion and the chance has gone now, so onwards we go. :bluescarf:

Nice words Steve. The decision makers are clueless.

I've been a football fan since the late 60's. I used to love the FA Cup competition which gives fans of lower league teams the chance of seeing their team perform against the big boys.

Probably one of the biggest highlights as a Cardiff fan was reaching Wembley for the semi-final and final in 2008.

I find it very annoying that many clubs name an under strength team during the early rounds of the FA cup these days. When they do that, I feel they deserve to lose! It's both disrespectful to the fans and the competition.
I feel the manager let us down by naming that under-strength team against Sheffield Wednesday. It robbed us of the chance to pit or wits against a Premiership team or two.

Look at the excitement at Newport County over the visit of Man Utd next week.
Unfortunately, once again, we miss out! :banghead:

Completely baffles me the attitude of some clubs??

We picked a team to concede loads of goals and we did :banghead:

Same with mid table premier league teams..play your best team in every round and your looking at a quarter final place at least
Yet most of them “rest” their best players it’s ridiculous

The magic of the cup is still there if you take it seriously..County are about to play the biggest game in their history!!
