Cardiff favourites to Sign Striker:

Fri Jan 19, 2024 4:19 pm

Cardiff City have launched a bid for Valerenga striker Andrej Ilic, according to reports in Norway.

The Serbian forward, 23, scored 11 goals in 16 games last season, including nine in 13 Eliteserien appearances for the Oslo-based club.

Norwegian channel TV 2 claim Cardiff and Valerenga are locked in negotiations over the player's transfer after the Welsh side launched a "big bid" for the player. French team Toulouse had registered an interest in this window, too, but subsequently signed Shavy Babicka from Aris Limassol, with Valerenga's asking price for Ilic cited as the reason they moved on.

Cardiff are said to be in the "driver's seat" and look favourites regarding a deal for the Serbia youth international, who scored 42 goals and provided 17 assists for RFS in 87 appearances for the Latvian team before earning his move to the Norwegian top flight. That being said, the Championship would represent a major step up in quality.

Fellow Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt are also said to have shown an interest in the 6ft 2ins striker, however it appears the Bluebirds are in deeper negotiations with the player.

Valerenga were relegated from the top flight last season and it is understood the forward wants to play at a higher level.

Hopefully this'll come off and he won't be another Glatzel

Let's hope we get this one over the line, as his stats show he knows how to find the net...

Some will cite the League he is in; but a striker who knows where the net is worth a gamble... :ayatollah:

Bit of an uninspiring signing but let’s see how it pans out if he does sign

I actually like it. Young player who looks like he can finish. Providing the midfield does the job, he just needs the chances.

Glatzel ironically would probably do well in this team now we don't play hoofball

Wez, I always said Glatzel was hard done by when here...! :ayatollah:

We've had an awful track record for a few years of buying what on paper are good strikers and then wrecking their careers and confidence.

Albeit we've bought some dross not at the required level but we've also been a graveyard for some of them!

I was also a fan of Glatzel & always said he was never given a real chance to show what he could do, got shot down a lot by people here for my support of him.

We seem to have a habit of making strikers look like donkeys by not playing to their strengths.

Must say I am often guilty of this but that says Jamie Vardy started off at a level much lower than Valerenga.

As you say "if you know where the net is"

Impressed with fact that he often heads ball down into the net giving keeper less chance

If you go online to rumours posted there's 15 names linked yet we have not signed one yet. What's left 12 days until the window closes I think. The clock is ticking and we shall see :bluescarf:

Glatzel was too good for the team he was in and our style of play.

Yes agree, he was suited to more of a passing style than Warnock ball.

Glatzel would have suited the way we want to play now. He was with us when we just lumped the ball to the front players.

Young, knows where the net is. Would be a welcomed signing.

Very unfair. I always thought that RG put a shift in when he played.

He scored some important goals for us. Leeds away probably stands out. I don’t think Warnock’s style suited him, as he was more of a pressing forward.

If you want to criticise strikers then give it to Madine!
