Just a nice exercise and good memories during bad times…
Who is your favourite signing by Cardiff and which manager made that signing?

Craig Bellamy, initially signed by Malky and helped us to the Premier League as a '
hometown' guy...
Others could have but didn't...!

Sure Dave Jones got him here first. (On loan)

One of my favourites in recent years is Joe Mason
Came from nowhere , pretty much, looked about 11 years old
Scored THAT goal against Liverpool, plus quite a few more very important goals for us
Summed up the Malky years for me
Everyone playing for the shirt, which elevated many that would have been pretty average in any other side

Whittingham is an obvious one in hindsight, a true club legend.
Obviously there was huge excitement both times we signed Bellamy.
It was also a brilliant moment when we signed Aaron Ramsey last summer. Not played as much as we'd like, but given us some great moments already like his goal at Leicester and the penalty against Swansea.
Others looked good on paper like Robbie Fowler, Wilfried Zaha and Rickie Lambert, but didn't work out.
But if I had to pick one, I'd say when Chopra came back. There were others (like Whittingham, Morrison, Hudson etc) that went on to be good signings, but we didn't know it at the time if we're all being honest.
But we all knew what Chopra was capable of and knew that it was a brilliant move to bring him back.

Ian Gibson cost £30,000
Would walk into most premiership teams today.

Gary O’Neil was one of my favourites. Looked at a different level at the time.

Dave Bennett - Len Ashurst was Manager.

What a great player. Part of a great City side of the early 70's with Toshack , Clarke etc. Think he played against Real Madrid that infamous night

Andy Legge, he gave absolutely everything for our club & still supporting us now.
Thu Jan 25, 2024 12:18 pm
Glen Loovens (we would have gone up if he stayed.)
or Junichi Inamoto (He was instantly our best player even though we only had him for a handful of games)

That goal against Wolves in the F.A Cup was probably the best goal I have ever seen live. Still watch it back now

CB39 If I remember correctly we had a transfer embargo back then and it was lifted and we signed prime Bellers on loan from Man City absolutely buzzing, Komas also but he wasn't the same as when we had him at Ninian. The fact Bellers left us to sign for Liverpool speaks volumes of what we had, then obviously he came back.
Best overall was Whitts but wow factor Bellamy. Used to love the site of that pace and urgency charging forward bringing energy to the team.

Alston Evans Chopra Bothroyd but I will go for Kevin McNaughton.
Thu Jan 25, 2024 3:35 pm
Kavanagh...
Alan Cork was the gaffer at the time I think.

I remember being excited about signing Richard Langley, as he was quality for QPR. Bit of a letdown in the end.
Also, Craig Noone. Saw him ripping it up for Brighton and used to think "he'd be quality in our team". He was, to be fair.
My pick would be Whittingham though. £300k or something wasnt it?? Phenomenal.

For the division we were in at the time ,John Robinson
Thu Jan 25, 2024 4:15 pm
Bennett brothers, Bob Hatton, Jeff Hemmerman, George Wood
Thu Jan 25, 2024 4:17 pm
Bellamy, Koumas and Ramsey, all class!
Chops and Bothroyd pretty good too!
Thu Jan 25, 2024 4:24 pm
Good idea for a post on these frustrating of times.
My favourites are:
John Buchanan, best striker of a ball I can remember.
Dave Bennett, fabulous wide forward, very tricky.
Graham Kavanagh, controlled most games in midfield.
Gary O'Neill, absolute classy midfielder at our level
Robert Earnshaw, for all those lovely goals as we climbed the divisions
Michael Chopra, quick thinking striker
Craig Bellamy, a touch of class out wide.
A few more signings of that standard would be appreciated!
Thu Jan 25, 2024 4:49 pm
In some order, as can't have just one:
Carl Dale
Phil Stant
Leo Fortune West
Ian Rodgerson (no idea why)
Mike Ford
Chopra
Bellamy
Kev McNaughton
Peter Whittingham
Andy Legg

The best thing about Joe Mason was the 3m we got for him off Wolves.

Only surpassed by the 8m for Ken Zahore off WBA

We ought to try our luck with a few more of our duds.

kevin ratcliffe and phil stant who got us out of the dungeon
