Rob Philips re-writing history over on twitter

Over on twitter.
Claiming the 1976 South Wales X1 v Man U fund-raiser for County was organised by Tommy Docherty

My recollection is the game was the brain-child of Jimmy Andrews, City manager at the time.

Rob is a decent bloke. If he's got the information wrong then it's purely by accident and someone should let him know the correct information.

I’ve got the program for that game, South Wales XI v Man Utd. There were a few
Swansea and Newport players in that SW team.

I remember that game but wasn't there for it...

We did a lot of charity work for the down and needy in those days and I recall 'bucket collections' for both Newpot and Swansea...

I think you are right on both counts, i.e. Jimmy Andrews thought up the idea but it was his good friend Tommy Docherty who put it all together and brought a pretty strong Man Utd team...

I was told Tommy Docherty was in the frame to manage us at one point after that...

I’ve got the match ball up in my attic with all of my other memorabilia.
My father was one of the linesmen for the game and I was at the game with him. Tommy Docherty took me into the dressing room and got all of the Man Utd players to sign it for me. It’s Worth a few bob now I think

I think you’re right.. it’s probably worth 15p. Would you accept my gracious offer of 30p? Or is that too much?
