OFFICIAL “ CARDIFF CITY SIGN STRIKER “

Wed Jan 31, 2024 2:17 pm

OFFICIAL:

Cardiff City FC is delighted to announce that striker Famara Diédhiou has joined the club on loan from Granada CF until the end of the campaign, subject to international clearance.

The 31-year-old possesses experience of the Championship from his time spent with Bristol City, where he netted an impressive 46 goals in 154 league games.

Diedhiou has also played across Europe during his career, featuring for the likes of Clermont, Angers, Alanyaspor and Granada, with a further 27 international appearances for Senegal.

Famara, who played and scored for his country in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, becomes the latest ex-Robin to make the move to the Welsh capital in recent years, following in the footsteps of Lee Tomlin, Bobby Decordova-Reid, Aden Flint, Marlon Pack and Callum O’Dowda.

Our new recruit spoke to Cardiff City TV after signing in South Wales:

“I’m feeling great. I’m happy to be back in English football. I’m very happy and excited to join the Club. It’s amazing here, it’s a great environment and a good atmosphere.

“I knew the gaffer before from when I played in Turkey. It was easy with him and I’m happy to join the team. I also had a message from Callum O’Dowda; we had a little conversation before I joined and I’ll be happy to see him again.

“I played in the Championship before, played many games and scored many goals, so I’m coming back today ready to work and with confidence. I want to do the maximum for the team.

“My confidence is high. I’m ready to do my best for the team. I know I have scored a lot of goals in the Championship, so I hope to do it again.”

After securing his second signing of the window, Erol Bulut commented: “Famara is a good striker and the good thing is that he knows the league.

"He played for Bristol City for four years and scored more than 50 goals there in all competitions. The players around him are also important, but I know him from Turkey when he was with Alanyaspor.

“Famara wants to show himself again and I hope he can do that with Cardiff City until the end of the season.”

Welcome to CCS, Famara!

We love ex Bristol city players lol.
However, Bulut wants him and knows what’s he’s capable of.

If he can get 5-8 goals in the second half of the season, I’d be extremely happy with that return.

He was also linked in the summer.

I must say this is as underwhelming a signing as I could imagine. Form the excitement of potentially signing a young Serbian striker to this (although it was supposedly never on the cards). Diedhiou didn’t really do much at Bristol and has played little to no football this season. But if that’s the only target available then so be it.

Probably not a first or second option but as long as he's not given a ridiculously long contract, I suppose he'll just about do until the next window.

Bristol fans have nothing but good things to say about him.

Had a tough couple of years but I trust Bulut on this one.

An improvement on what we have.

Don’t think this is the only striker we’ll sign.

looks like thats all our loans filled up then
its money only now or free transfers

This is an ok signing to be fair

Proven at this level

Should get perhaps 5-8 goals

Although another loan? No permanent signings yet even with the embargo lifted. I understand reasons but it means we'll be in the same boat in the summer

A one in three striker is a good buy

Runnar going back probably to free up one more, or has he already gone?

Did ok for Bristol, can't be any worse than what we have so let's wait and see

We needed someone else and with Ramsey and O'Dowda he could get some good chances, we need a real shake up and restart.

Loans is Hardly planning for next season I guess but when the players you wanted have gone elsewhere a week or weeks ago and your not backed to buy players then it's the best we are going to get really. Hopefully gets a few goals :bluescarf:

Better then we have so cant complain too much.
January is always extremely tough and few teams build for the future during this transfer window
Ramsey back is huge and will undoubtedly create chances for anyone
Welcome to Cardiff :bluescarf:

Lot more powerful and direct than Etete they would possibly be a decent partnership up front

We were trying but £4mill for a gamble was too much, Summer is a better time to try and get a Striker.

Mark,

It was bullshit even Paul Abbandonato agreed it was Mefia talk, we have bid for NO one yet.

Just realised if Diedou is a loan we cant have made a loan bid for Moore then?

No loan spaces left unless we send Runarsson back

I don't think Moore will leave Bournemouth. If Solanke gets injured then they are short up top. We were due to sign that Hovrath from Forest, but that seems to have gone quiet. So I can't see Runarsson leaving without cover being brought in.

Annis you cant compare anyone with Etete my Mother would offer more than he does. Just seen his 49 goals he scored for the carrot crunchers certainly knows where the back of the net is. Still think we will bring one more striker in though.

5 loans in the matchday squad that's the rules

I think this signing puts to bed any thoughts of getting Kieffer Moore. Fair enough. Hes got a decent scoring record and is better than what we've got. Forget the play offs. Get safe, improve our play and win the derby games are better targets.

Not necessarily.

We may well bring in another striker tomorrow as well.

It's not. Not in this team! Has to be more prolific!

I'm unsure on this one either way. Welcome, lets see what he's like in a team that has created little from open play for months.

Yes, I did read that, interesting to see what happens.

Ugbo no 2
we are really going to rip up the championship with this goal getter
big difference to the serb striker we where going for bulut must be asking dalhman what the f.ck is going on
don't make promises you cannot back
And
unless tan stumps up money in the summer bulut will leave
everybody we have looked at
has gone elsewhere

Ugbo number 2

He’s not even kicked a ball for us yet and already you’re writing him off. Nobody has even said we are ‘ripping the championship up’ with him. Just gives us a better option other than Etete who is nowhere near the level required.

Let’s get through a tough February and March before we even start to worry about the summer. :ayatollah:

Think we are now looking to the summer for the rebuild and filling holes in January.
At least this bloke knows championship football and where the net is.
