NO. NO. NO. This is the exact type of mistake we have made countless times in the past. I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole.

His last good season was 4/5 years ago and he's way past his best now.

One look on the Stoke forum and they are all absolutely over the moon with this news.

There was a time where he looked like he’d be a brilliant signing for any Championship club.

But those days are gone now, I expect he’ll have to drop down to League One or go abroad.

He’s 34 now so he may even retire as he’s not wanted at this level. Obviously strikers tend to retire earlier than other positions.


Would not be the right signing for any Championship club I think. Would be similar to when we signed Rickie Lambert.

He had a chance to come here at the start of his career (from Peterbrough, I think) but chose to go to QPR...

Always recall him being a horrid little man whenever he came here, but he always had a great game and turned some of our best players...

Nail on the head. A Helguson type experienced head would be worth his weight in gold. Not this man, nor Andy Carroll or those ilk.
