I have said I would like to stay with the project. But I cannot decide alone. Other people have to decide about this. I can plan only until the end of the season. For this, I will do everything, for this club to be in a safe position in this league.






Confident you can implement all the things you want to fulfil a project?


Erol Bulut:

If there is any project in this club, that they want to do, if they ask me to be in this project, I will do it with pleasure. I have no problem with that. But I cannot decide about my future.

I will give my best until the end of the season for this club to be in a good position. So, if I have to plan for next season, I cannot next season, because my contract is finishing at the end of the season. So, my plan is for the end of the season, to make the best for the players for this club. The rest, I cannot speak about.






Bulut will decide which of his five new players will start v Preston home this Saturday:

Joe Ralls trained today with us without any problems. We have to check again tomorrow, but I think he will be OK.

He started sessions on the field with the physios, he is running and doing well. But he is not yet with us.

His visa is fixed so he will be available for us







Will signings have to be patient?

For sure. We can not expect Saturday for the new players to come in and expect everything from them. We are training one week together, but you can’t expect everything from them. But we have to help them. We have to be patient.

How different has it been this week on the back of a win?




This win has given us a lot of confidence. We needed it. When we see the last few games, the players were frustrated. We didn’t have enough players, we had injuries and some players could not be replaced. They were waiting for a few transfers to come in for a better squad.

I said it many times in press conferences and now we have the players in who have good quality for that price that we had - the limit - we got good players in.

They helped us last week against Watford in the second half, this week they will get minutes and will give more, because last week some of them have only had one or two days training and a lot of travelling for them.

We have to see the opponent. We play against Preston, they are a team who press high with good speed and are physically a good team. We can’t forget our first game up there. We have to be good against them, physically and tactically.

Rubin Colwill, he’s produced some moments of real quality, he’s reacted to your comments earlier in the season?



He is trying. It is not easy for an offensive player to focus on defence. We need everyone in defence and attack. We spoke many times with Rubin and he is doing well, he is trying. Still last week, he jumped a little bit out and tried to make too many things. You need your energy at the right moments, not to waste it so easy. If he can manage to use his energy well at the right moments, he will be much, much better.

Erol Bulut said of the transfer dealings:


EROL BULUT:

“But we have to see that we had a small amount (of money) to make those transfers, not like other clubs, who can invest what they want.”

"We managed it. We sent many players away and got players in.”

“Other clubs have different amounts, so (if we had the same), we might have been different on the market. But we took the best players we could get for our limit."


In Erol Buluts first few months in charge, Bulut had Cardiff in and out of the Top Six regularly and Bulut spoke repeatedly about wanting to stay in those top-six places, as is natural when you are in them and with an expectant and rejuvenated fan base drinking in each and every word with glee after two campaigns of doom.

But with the benefit of hindsight, that sort of form was unsustainable. Cardiff have a small actual playing squad and have, by and large, been pretty lucky with injuries this season, save a couple of games post-Christmas.


Bulut has learnt, though. He has learnt not to amp up the prospect of breaking into that top six come May. Indeed, that word is strictly out of his vocabulary for the time being.

We have Rambo, David (Turnbull), Rubin. Now we have a few players that we can use in that position and we can rotate, to not get injuries, so one player doesn’t play three or four games in a row. February is now really tight, we have five games until the end of the month. Every three days there is a game so we can rotate.

“This is the first year for me here in English football. It’s a limited budget to make five or six players. It’s not easy. So no one can say why we didn’t take certain players.”

What does Turnbull bring?



First of all he had three years at Celtic in a big team, the Scottish league. He is 24 and also experienced. He played many games and scored and assisted many goals. In the offensive part he will bring us attempts to try and score or score himself. He can read the game and has quality with his passing accuracy and ability to keep the ball. He can make it quick and slow when we need him to be. He can do both sides. He will be really effective for us.

Home form needs to improve?

We could have a few more wins, but we were leading and then losing the games in the last 10 minutes. Norwich, West Brom, QPR, we shouldn’t lose. Many games we could add one point. We have to manage it even when we are leading, trying to put the opponent away from our goal.

Turnbull's position?

I think in midfield he can play all three positions, six, eight and 10. I think defensively, even last week he did a good job, he was running a lot backwards and took a lot of balls. Maybe he has to add more things to his defensive work, but last week he made a lot of high intensity runs.

What is Robinson's injury?

He had a virus and he took really long. Now he is training already, two or three days with our physios until he comes back into the team. His history, he has had a lot of injuries. When we came here, he was just back from an injury. Then when we start the season he got injured again and for three weeks he was out.

He came back and then he was out again. When he comes close, he has another injury. So he hasn't adapted to be fully with us. He has to really take care about his body and manage it well.

Joe Ralls' contract?

We have spoken before. I have said my opinion about that. The board is handling it until now. I don't know in which direction they manage it. I am of the same opinion, that we have to renew the contract.

In my opinion, he is an important captain of this team. Thirteen years he has been here. So, we cannot say, 'Ah, at the end of the season, you go.' This is my opinion. What other people think, I don't know. This is my opinion about the captain and Joe Ralls, we have to renew his contract.

I have said it to the chairman, Mehmet Dalman, how we can build the levels and make this team higher. We have to make a plan. But sometimes, when you are too late with the plans... things won't go well. Then everything is tight, to fix everything in a small time is not easy.

Let's say for the new season, in my opinion we have to start now to make our plans. Players, training camp, everything inside the club. It takes time. If it's too late, maybe you don't get the players you want to sign. My plans are like this. But I can't say anything because I need to make the plans with the board. Right now my plans are until the end of the season.

You can see it (on the training ground). Our tempo and quality in the training sessions looks a little bit different than a few weeks before. It's different when you train with U21s players and players who have played for Celtic.
