Midfielder has trial at Cardiff City FC
By Glen Williams

Midfielder Adeteye Gbadehan has been on trial at Cardiff City in recent weeks.

The 19-year-old, who qualifies for the USA, Nigeria and England, went on trial with Premier League side Brentford last summer and caught the eye of Championship outfit Southampton, too.

He penned a short-term contract with League One side Port Vale last summer, which initially took him up until January 2024 with a view to extending. However, on November 18, the club announced 'the registration of midfielder Adeteye Gbadahan has been rejected by the relevant football authorities and due to this the 19-year-old will return now return to the United States'.

Gbadahan later posted on his own social media channel about the failed move: "I wanted to let you know how said and frustrated I am with the international clearance situation. I am a British citizen and do not have any visa issues/requirements to play in the UK.

"ITC was needed due to my previous US clubs. Port Vale did not apply for the ITC on my behalf which has prevented me from playing at the Vale this season.
"

It is understood he has interest from a number of clubs within the English Football League, including Cardiff. He is said to have done well while on trial but no agreement was reached to sign him.

Given the failed move to Port Vale owing to paperwork, it is also unclear whether he is technically a free agent, so a deal outside of the window is unlikely. Sources at Cardiff, however, suggest it never got to the stage of talking about getting a deal done.

The teenager played for Future SC Monarchs in Maryland and won the Dallas Cup in 2021.
