Cardiff City loanee scores penalty in Wembley winGateshead fans have flocked to social media to praise Kieron Evans after he scored a penalty during the club's dramatic shootout win over Sol11ihull Moors in the FA Trophy final yesterday.
Evans, who scored three goals in 16 games for the National League side, has really endeared himself to the Tynesiders after joining on loan in the second half of the season. And fans there will love him even more after he netted from 12 yards to help secure the silverware for Gateshead.
The game finished 2-2 after extra time and Evans, who came on in the 75th minute, had nerves of steel to stick his hand up to take a penalty, which he dispatched to make it 4-4. Gateshead would eventually win 5-4 on penalties.
Heed fans replied to a photo of Evans holding the trophy after the match, with Roy Best saying: "
Exceptional Kieron, fantastic day, now enjoy the afters!"
Tor Hutchison said: "
You were brilliant yesterday mate, well done and enjoy the rest of the celebrations." Josh added: "
Class yesterday."
Mick Connolly wrote: "
Hell of a performance yesterday sir. Hope you all have proper bad heads, you deserve the celebrations haha. If I ever see you out and about in Cardiff, your next drink is on me."
Fan account Heedonistic wrote: "
Thought you were excellent when you came on yesterday. Really made a positive impact. See you in pre-season." While Heart of the Heed said: "
Please stay."
Those final two comments throw up the question surrounding his future. Erol Bulut wanted to send Evans out on loan last summer, but no suitable offers came in. The 22-year-old from Brithdir sees his contract run out this summer and with no manager yet in place for next season, his next move remains unknown, with the retained list also imminent.
