“ George Feeney “

Wed May 15, 2024 8:16 am

Ex Cardiff forward Warren Feeney, whose son was born in Wales and qualifies for both Wales and Northern Ireland and is Currently in the Wales Under 16 Squad has been signed by Tottenham.

George Feeney, a 16-year-old striker at Glentoran, is moving to north London this summer for £1million with further payments of up to £2million if Feeney starts a first team game for Tottenham.

Father Warren Feeney was Glentorian’s manager and two seasons ago asked Cardiff City’s coaches to take a look at the lad. The lad was born in Cardiff and Warren wanted him to be part of the set up. No one came back to Cardiff and George Feeney was never even given a trial.

Glentoran youngster George Feeney netted for Wales U-16s in a 3-1 win over Saudi Arabia in France on Easter Monday.
It’s Feeney’s second goal Wales this week, after scoring against Japan on Thursday. On Saturday, he captained the young Dragons against Mexico.

The 16-year-old forward has represented Northern Ireland at U-17 level, but is now considering a permanent switch to Wales, the country of his birth. He has spent the last week with FAW youth squad, playing in a tournament in France.

George’s father Warren, formerly manager of Glentoran, won 51 caps for Northern Ireland as a forward scoring five goals.

The teenager’s grandad Warren senior played once for Northern Ireland in 1976 when he was with Glentoran. His great grandad Jimmy featured twice for Ireland before the IFA/FAI split.

Warrens enjoying retirement by the looks of it!

A great pro. Not enough goals for us, though. Hopefully his boy is more prolific.

I’ve known George since he was born and he wanted to play for Cardiff City, never even gave him a trial.
But our loss , Spurs gain.

Long Story Dave Jones never liked him and sent him to the Jacks who loved him but could not afford him.

Jones only gave Warren 6 starts in 3yrs, a private row.

Luton, Bournemouth, Dundee all loved him.

Scored 5 goals in 10 games for the Jacks , 32 goals for Bournemouth etc.

A True Professional as you said.

Dave Jones fell out with Nathan Blake Wolves days same story like Warrens.

But we are actually in this topic talking about his Son George and what a great prospect.

Real high hopes for George, Chris Spurs are spending big on him.

The lad and his Father 2 years ago were knocking Cardiff City’s door and were not even offered a trial.

You know the club doesn’t have to offer out trails to players just because their dads used to play for the club right?

Just spinning news into negative posts about the club just for the sake of it now.

That's certainly a view; but one borne out of an ignorance of the facts...

Sometimes, knowing the people involved and their stories is King... ;) :ayatollah:

I remember meeting him in the services (he was at Plymouth I think) and he was a top top guy. Time to chat about CCFC and footy in general. My wife couldn’t believe he was a player as he seemed ‘a normal fella’. Did the ayatollah back to my son. Only had good things to say about you Annis, even after all I was telling him about you!!! Only joking :P

Well we lost out and it would not of hurt to have given the lad a trial, the only losers were us, but at least your happy, gardener411

As Sven says it’s about contacts and who you know.

We could of had George Feeney for nothing, Glentorian are now £1mill better off with more to come hopefully, but it’s made you happy and Cardiff’s loss.

Warren always seemed a nice guy. But was never prolific and I thin the championship was a level well above him. But I think I met him when I was a teen and he was a gent.

As for his son, the trial 2 years ago would of been the guy in charge of the academy, David Hughes? The now united guy. The problem is, you can't say Cardiff lost out. Because he might of come here and failed to make the grade. The fact he went to Ireland to play might have been what helped his development more than anything.

Warren us and worshipped in Northern Ireland.

First I met David Hughes 2 months ago and he was never told.

I disagree 14 yrs old George was and giving a lad a trial costs nothing especially recommended by another
Manager and the lad was born in Cardiff , but cost Cardiff once again £millions a fact.
