Hull City's owner and ex-manager Liam Rosenior clashed over the continued inclusion of former Cardiff City goalkeeper, a source of friction which appeared to play a part in the relationship becoming fractured.

The Tigers sacked Rosenior, who guided the club to seventh in the Championship and was nominated for the league's manager of the season, at the end of the campaign. It left some on the outside scratching their heads, although, with the money which had been pumped in, some supporters expected the team to get to the play-offs.

Owner Acun Ilicali hosted a candid Q&A with supporters on Wednesday evening to review the season and explain the sacking of Rosenior.

Erol Bulut took the decision at the start of the season to allow him to leave and Ilicali, who knows the Cardiff boss well from their time together at Fenerbahce, signed Allsop for around £300,000.

Like he did at Cardiff, Allsop started well on Humberside, but towards the end of the season, and with the play-offs slipping away from them, Tigers supporters began to turn their frustrations towards the goalkeeper as the goals were shipped in.

And it appears Ilicali wanted the goalkeeper to have a spell on the sidelines, but Rosenior seemingly refused to rest the former Derby County shot-stopper.

HullLive, detailed the entire meeting with fans, referencing that "significant friction" was caused between Ilicali and Rosenior over their use of the goalkeeper.


n their round-up of the briefing, HullLive report: "Ilicali referenced wanting to be entertained at the MKM Stadium but picked out Ryan Allsop, suggesting the goalkeeper needed a rest and required taking out of the firing line at points in the season, something the manager didn't agree with and caused significant friction for a period of time.

"The pair also fell out over January signing Ivor Pandur, with Rosenior suggesting he didn't feel the Croatian youngster was good enough to play in the Championship, while there were disagreements over the amount of time striker Noah Ohio had on the pitch with Ilicali at pains to make it clear he was only trying to advise his manager and go no further. Essentially, as the manager, Rosenior would live and die by his decisions and his decisions alone, particularly if he ignored advice.


"Interestingly, Ilicali in crediting Rosenior for always talking with logic, hasn't ruled out working with him again in the future, saying 'we could meet again maybe'."

Tan would never do a Q and A with us because he just likes surrounding himself with people who tell him that everything he’s doing is 100% right. With this, he’d have fans telling him to his face what he’s doing wrong.

But I agree, it’s never a good sign when an owner is trying to interfere with team selection - as we know from experience.
