Cardiff City star Mahlon Romeo pleads guilty to drink driving and abusing police officer

The Bluebirds full-back has been handed a driving ban by magistrates following an incident in February
By Tom Coleman

A Cardiff City footballer has been banned from driving after admitting to drink driving in his Mercedes Benz in Cardiff earlier this year.

Mahlon Romeo, 28, was handed a 14-month ban from driving at Cardiff Magistrates Court on Monday, after pleading guilty to an offence on Cefn Coed Road on February 8.

Romeo was found to have 58 micro grams of alcohol per 100 ml of breath. The legal limit is 35 micro grams.

As well as being disqualified from driving, Romeo was fined £4,423, and ordered to pay £85 in court costs, as well as a £1,769 surcharge.

He also pleaded guilty to an aggravated public order offence, after he was found to have abused a police officer.

Romeo was ordered to pay the police constable £100 in compensation, and was fined £3,317, with a £1,326 surcharge.

The sentence comes one month after Erol Bulut revealed Romeo and team-mate Callum Robinson had been disciplined by the club. Bulut declined to expand on the details, describing the move as an "internal" issue.

"I said at the start of the season, discipline and respect is the most important thing for me," Bulut said.

But just found this from his previous Court Case, has previous.

Mahlon Romeo has been Convicted previously when he played for Millwall:

Quentin represents professional footballer Mahlon Romeo on Direct Access basis

When Milwall defender Mahlon Romeo found himself in need of specialist legal representation in respect of a road traffic matter he chose to instruct Quentin Hunt on a direct public access basis.

Quentin represented Mr Romeo in respect of a case of speeding before the Magistrates Court. Mr Romeo chose to enter guilty pleas to all matters and was disqualified from driving under the ‘totting’ provisions due to the accumulation of penalty points. Quentin was able to ensure that the disqualification period was the minimum period prescribed by law so that Mr Romeo was not off the road for a day longer than was obligatory under s35 of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988. If you find yourself accused of a driving offence you may wish to avail yourself of the best representation possible. Quentin Hunt is a specialist in road traffic law, having represented Premier League footballers, world champion sportsmen, Grammy Award winning pop stars, Members of Parliament and business leaders. You may contact Quentin for a no obligation conversation about your case.

How do you know that this is the same Mahlon Romeo?

If this turns out to be a different guy and not the one you're on about, then that's not great that it's been posted

I don’t think Annis mentioned it was “our Marlon” just that Marlon Romeo was in court… ;) ;) ;)

Firstly, 'Annis' didn't mention anything or anyone...

Secondly, it may or not be 'Bluebird Mahlon' Romeo but either way, it doesn't have to be a criminal matter, as Courts are used for a multitude of legal reasons; and if it is of public note, it will be reported by the appropriate media

The image (now removed) should not have been posted either, as it listed the names of several other unassociated people

Thanks, Annis. Seems poster 'Peter Kitchen' had the details...

We just need to be careful of the images we post on occasion; particularly when they involve unassociated 'third parties'... :ayatollah:

He’s got history in drink driving so this is not a huge surprise.

Best thing he can do is try and get some help, if he has a problem.

Would explain why Bulut dropped him for a while.

It can be unpleasant and insulting when some members of the public behave in an abusive and aggressive way to police officers. Furthermore, the courts do not accept that simply swearing at a police officer is sufficient grounds for an arrest, so I wonder what warranted the £100.00 compensation.

It was an aggravated public order offence because he used homophobic slurs.
