Best manager - Ferguson or Guardiola?

Mon May 20, 2024 6:54 pm

A bit of a debate at the moment.

Who is the best manager in modern times - Alex Ferguson or Pep Guardiola?

I will always say Sir Alex.

He had completely different teams in over 25 years at the same club, yet managed to win 13 Premier League titles.

His longevity at the top will never be beaten. Just look at what has happened to Man Utd since he left 11 years ago.

You also can’t forget what he did at Aberdeen.

Sir Alex hands down

I'm going to post my opinion of both, so that we can have a debate!

Pep has won trophies in 3 of the top 5 leagues, won the Champions league with 2 of those clubs, and has now led City to winning the title 4 times in a row, which hasn't been done before.

On the flip side, Sir Alex did it without the backing of one of the richest people in the world, and created superstars from nothing. The 99 treble I believe is a bigger achievement than Man City's treble.

The fact that Ferguson won the league many times over so many years is seriously impressive.

He had completely different teams but always turned them into winners.

It shouldn’t even be a debate.
It’s Ferguson hands down.

SAF 100%

He did it with numerous different players, youngsters, brought in the right players at the right times, let the ones go who thought they were bigger than the club, to see them now under that clown is astonishing. Thought we had a bad owner, Glaziers make Tan look good

Pep has done an Abrhamovic, bought the league titles with the influx of players, think the best comparison is Lance Armstongs 7 Tour de France victories

Fergie always had the financial clout to get the players that he wanted like paying £27 million for 18-year-old Wayne Rooney, a huge amount of money at the time and £30 million for Ferdinand, can't fault the successful teams that he built but he was backed and if Fergie wanted a player no other club in the Première League could compete with Man Utd during most of his reign ..... things started to change when the money men came into Chelsea and Man City
Man Utd treble win was achieved but they weren't Premier League Champions of their own league unlike Man City's treble win
Successive Man Utd managers have been backed financially by spending huge amounts on transfers and wages, Ten Hag has spent nearly £400 million and just had their worst season in many a year, they will spend again next season
