" NEW: TAN PODCAST - FINANCES AND WHAT SHOULD HE DO NEXT ? "

Tue May 21, 2024 9:00 pm

We've discussed our precarious finances over the last week and the post I originally put up resulted in some healthy discussion as it is a cause I'd concern and for me a real issue, as it drives everything we do as a club.

Ace Podcast Nation did a show last Monday to specifically feature on what was discussed in that post and a couple of others that I added as to Vincent Tan's financial position and his current focus, as in reality he has lost 50% of his family business net worth with his football 'bets' being significant in that aggregate loss and Cardiff 'owing' him £250M; which is 50% of his current overall net worth of £550M.

His current focus is the potential $100bn casino business. I've given links to all of this in the posts below, so have included them for reference. The questions are:

Where does he (and by default we) go from here?

Will we see a reasonable budget and indeed allow Erol Bulut to spend it on what Mehmet Dalman said would be a top six finish?

Simon, who does the APN podcast, was interestingly the only platform that Mehmet Dalman did; an hour plus interview on three occasions when even the usual suspects didn't get one.

We all watched it with interest last year after the usual radio silence from the club, as no one else had news 'from the horses mouth'.

I spoke with him in the week ahead of his show and he's a good guy, who knows his stuff, is a real City fan who wants the best for us and is trying to develop a platform with decent content and discussion, which isn't easy.

I've frequently said we need an Arsenal Fans TV (AFTV) type show, so do listen to the show, support him & get in contact as he is always looking for good contributors.

Links are below with the show first, you may have to scroll back on the YouTube link to get to the start of the show which commences after the timer:

Another excellent article following the ones from last week, GrangeEndStar...

Listened to the Podcast and I have to say Simon has a great knowledge of the club and where it should be going...

Enjoyed listening to it all; but moreso where the points in your previous thread(s) about our owner's finances were discussed... :ayatollah:

That was an excellent listen and no one should disagree that things need to change.

If I'm being honest here, more hopeful than anything, but I feel the silence will end with that change.

Good and interesting listen. Some of the options sound good maybe to easy. The one thing that will hold us back on any of these happening any time soon is FFP. Look at Newcastle richest owners in world football they are becoming frustrated and talk of them pulling out as they dont understand why they just cant give Eddie Howe 200 million to spend on new players. Instead there faced with selling one or two of there best players this summer in order not to breach FFP.

Who's to say Tan doesn't want to give the Manager 20 million to get us promoted established as a premier club and then sell. Again sounds easy. But the days of owners being able to spend more than the club can afford are no longer. There is a limit on what you can spend and with so many clubs especially in the championship being in financial trouble it had to happen.

They should scrap FFP. If a club is lucky enough to attrack a mega rick owner then best of luck to them.

Agree with that; and it may even be challengeable in Court (please don't tell Vincent ;) ) in Law, as it might be perceived as constraint of trade or along those lines

Some clubs might fall away but the current restraints are working against them anyway

Just Liverpool, Man United, Barca and the rest want FFP to protect their advantage, it's a crime.

Cheers Sven, Simon speaks very well, very knowledgeable about football and especially City. I've got a lot of time for people like this as they are stepping up to provide content that our local "mainstream" media doesn't or won't, for some reason. The "alternative" media is outpacing legacy media by a rate of knots and I think it's a very healthy thing.

We actually get better content than the MSM on this forum and have some great contributers, it's one of the best forums out there, and I should know as I compile the "Forumwatch"!

I wish Simon the best of luck on growing his audience and as said in my OP, do support him and also get in contact with him if you feel you can contribute in any way.
