Wayne Rooney appointed Plymouth Argyle manager
Sky SportsWayne Rooney has been appointed the new head coach of Plymouth Argyle; 38-year-old is keen to re-establish his reputation at the Sky Bet Championship club after a poor spell at Birmingham last season, when he lost nine games out of 15; Rooney has also managed Derby County and DC United
England's second-highest scorer was sacked by Birmingham in January after just 83 days in charge.
That decision hit Rooney hard, but after taking some time to consider his future, amid a host of offers in the media, he has decided to return to football management.
Plymouth retained their Sky Bet Championship status on the final day of the 2023/24 season after beating Hull City 1-0 at Home Park to finish in 21st place - one point above relegated Birmingham.

Wonder what the odds will be for them to be relegated next season

Why do clubs keep going after people like Rooney - after his stint at Brum, I thought that would be his managerial career over.

Did well under extreme circumstances a derby but went downhill after he left them..

I'm not getting the Rooney abuse.
Birmingham aside (which was a car already mid-crash), he hasn't done that much wrong. Derby was pure disaster & crisis management; but he did alright.
He talks very well on football, also. Plus the obvious addition that he was an absolute killer and one of the best goalscorers to come from these shores.
Plymouth may be a good fit for him if he's keen to keep going. They play some decent stuff, and if they don't get pillaged, have a good chance of staying up. I said it elsewhere, we should be all over their wingbacks as they destroyed us for 180 mins this season.

I think he will one day deliver, taking on lowly Plymouth is not a bad choice . If he is anything, he is dedicated and hard working .

world class player but i don't rate him as a manager, time is going to tell. He needs to do a good job in his next stint

A car mid crash in 6th? Not sure I agree there.

That's Plymouth, Cardiff and Oxford the bottom 3 for me.

That's exactly my point. Rooney didn't sack him, the lunatics at the top did.

I think he will do alright , at derby to be fair he nearly kept them up , paid the players wages out of his own pocket , brum was a disaster but he came in after the transfer window .

I'm glad Brum went down. They brought a name in instead of sticking to the good job they already had.
I've nothing against Rooney as he did do a good job at Derby but the circumstances were against him. Come to think of it he did a better job at Birmingham,

His first stop will probably be to visit the Plymouth Hoe.
