Sheffield Wednesday, Plymouth Argyle, Hull City and Norwich City move while silence deafening at Cardiff City

The club's rivals get a head start on next season's plans while Cardiff remain in limbo

It was a productive weekend for Cardiff City's Championship rivals.

Sheffield Wednesday acted decisively to get their in-demand manager, Danny Rohl, tied down to a new contract. That came after the German worked wonders in keeping the club in the division after they looked nailed on for the drop halfway through the campaign.

Plymouth Argyle, meanwhile, have gone out and got their man. Wayne Rooney was the choice for the Pilgrims, despite the Manchester United legend's torrid time in charge of Birmingham City, a stint which ultimately played a huge role in taking them down.

Hull City expect to announce by the end of the week that former Hamburg chief Tim Walter will be their new manager, too, according to Hull Live.

All relatively swift, all things considered. Norwich have only been without a manager for a week and a half. Plymouth had to line up targets dependent on which division they found themselves in, but Neil Dewsnip got a big name in Rooney, although he has a lot to prove, admittedly.

Hull were firm in their call to wield the axe with Liam Rosenior, who had guided them to seventh and was nominated for the manager of the season award. Acun Ilicai made a tough choice in cutting Rosenior, but zeroed in on Walter almost immediately.

The Owls' shrewd business in keeping Rohl on board is huge for them. It came after productive and lengthy talks between the owner and the manager in London in recent weeks “The hard work preparing for next season is already underway," said Owls owner Dejphon Chansiri when the news was announced at the weekend. "It was important to secure Danny’s services on a well-deserved new contract and I am delighted this is now in place.”

At Cardiff, meanwhile, the sound of silence continues to deafen, despite this situation having been looming and on the agenda for months and months and months

Continued:

It’s almost a month since Cardiff kicked a ball and the Cardiff board have gone completely silent.

No plans for next season, pre-season, players leaving, the list goes on.

The longer all parties find themselves at this impasse, the more uncomfortable it becomes. There was agitation among higher-ups at Cardiff weeks ago and that will have only grown, with chairman Mehmet Dalman the man tasked with pulling all this together. That can be no easy feat given the current situation, it must be said.

Some have said the club are just waiting for final approval to be signed off by Tan, other insiders refute that it has got that far just yet. We could be hours, days or, heaven forfend, weeks away from knowing the outcome, but the situation is still poised in such a delicate place there is little inkling as to which way it will fall.

Norwich City are reportedly set to appoint FC Nordsjaelland boss Johannes Hoff Thorup as their new manager.

The Canaries had been on the hunt for a new manager following the departure of David Wagner, who was sacked earlier this month after the 4-0 loss to Leeds United in the play-off semi-final second leg.

Norwich had stuck with Wagner after a poor start to the season, despite many supporters calling for his dismissal, and they were rewarded for their patience as he guided them to a sixth-placed finish, but their comprehensive play-off defeat prompted the board into action.

A host of names have been linked with the vacancy at Carrow Road in recent weeks, including Will Still, Pascal Jansen and Steve Cooper, but it now seems that Thorup is the Canaries' top target.

According to BBC Radio Norfolk, Norwich are hoping to appoint Thorup as their new manager by the end of the week, while Danish outlet Tipsbladet claim that a deal has been agreed between the two clubs for the 35-year-old.
