What number ground are you on?

Thu May 30, 2024 9:40 am

After watching Goytre AFC v Treowen Stars last week (Welsh 3rd division) I've managed to tick off 200 grounds.

I've only managed 60 out of the current 92 in the Premier League/EFL which I'm hoping to make a big dent in next season.

Portsmouth and Luton will be numbers 23 and 24 out of 24.

How many grounds have you all ticked?
Any new grounds for next season?

Honestly your going to be Gobsmacked 776 Grounds I have seen Football
Matches , that includes Clubs like Bradford City, Brighton , Bristol Rovers, etc where I saw them play at three different grounds. Atletico Baleares 4 different grounds.

Unbelievable amount of clubs 2 grounds.

3 World Cups / 4 European Championships

Places like Belgrade where I have now done 7 grounds

Mallorca 9 grounds where Atletico Baleares have played away matches.

Every Country I go on holiday with Family or the lads I have to see a match example 18mths ago Riga FC v Hearts European Football

Wales Away 27 grounds

England Away 35 grounds

I first attended football in 1970 Bury FC Gigg Lane , saw them 7 times before attending My First Cardiff game Ninian Park 1972-73 Season:

CARDIFF CITY 1 BOLTON 0 Gill Reece a Crowd of approx 9,500

BEST DAYS GOING AWAY WITH CARDIFF IN EUROPE / UNBELIEVABLE TIMES / PLUS PRE-SEASON TOURS: PORTUGAL AlGARVE CUP / IRELAND TWICE / SCOTLAND TWICE ETC ETC

I use to go to every pre-season away game with Cardiff.

NEXT SEASON:

Oxford United’s New Ground, I did the Manor Ground with City
From the age of 12 years old I never missed an Away game with Cardiff City for 27 years

Annis, that is great going fair play to you.

I bet you've got some amazing memories from those trips

Way too drunk in the past to remember I’m afraid. Used to go home and away every game for a few seasons, before life took over.

Re: What number ground are you on?

At a guess around 60.
Many of those are sadly gone now such as The Manor ground,Eastville,Upton Park,Highbury to name a few.
If I had pick a favourite ground I have visited it would probably be Villa Park or Anfield.

Re: What number ground are you on?

That’s some going Annis fair play. I don’t think many others, if any, from any club could match that ? Or could they?
Maybe someone could start a site for that. ? Annis

My first away - vicarage road. Best ground Anfield in the Kop - worst ground old summer field park? Wigans old ground.

Maybe 30 sways or so

Thank you.

I use to be obsessed, obsessed and not only did I hate missing a Cardiff game, where ever I was I had to go to the local areas team.

I have even been to Egypt, Cairo International Stadium from where My Fathers family were from.

Watched Pattaya football club when I was 19 yrs old

Loved going to Vicarage Road when Elton John was their Owner / President.

Probably well over 150 with Cardiff since 87 . Lots of two grounds new and old stadiums of clubs and clubs that are now in non league , loved the fa cup games over the years .

Re: What number ground are you on?

Liked old Turf Moor, Molineux, Highbury and West Ham before development.
Never went on the The Shelf at WHL unfortunately.

Re: What number ground are you on?

Must admit I'm getting stuck on the 92 I'm on 73 but my son who when he was younger would go anywhere now will only watch City! ( I don't know whether that's good or bad) Living in Manchester for 30 years for lucky with grounds for the sheer amount of league and non league football available within an hour.
I remember going to 3 games on a New Years Day, Altrincham, Man City and Macclesfield.
You could go every night of the week. Stockport Monday's and Friday. Anyone you wanted Tuesday/Weds. Reserve match Thursday night.
What I miss about that is the sheer amount of high quality non league stuff you could watch . This is sadly lacking in South Wales with most (Merthyr the exception) confined to the dismal league of Wales and Welsh cup which has also been destroyed.
Would be so much better if our teams could enter both FA Cups and our non league teams able to play in the English league.

Like many I did plenty of grounds with work esp Scotland and Greece.

Grounds I miss most are probably Eastville, old Villa Park and The Vetch. If your reading this and haven't been get yourself to Luton and Goodison before they are destroyed.
I've seen Bristol Rovers play on 4 grounds Eastville, Ashton Gate, Twerton and The Memorial Ground has anyone seen anyone play on 4 or more ?
Another pie in the sky idea would be to do all 92 in a season, with fixtures spread out all over the week I bet this could be done

I would not like to add up what I spent

In the early days it £2 / £2.50 to travel on Adar Glas Supporters Club to away matches

The best for atmosphere Partizan Belgrade, the best I’ve ever seen.

The best stadium Santiago Bernabéu Stadium / Real Madrid

The worst stadium for me Northampton’s old one as it was 3 sided and had NO atmospheres.

Thanks for asking.

PARTIZAN BELGRADE / WELL WORTH VISITING / 7 VISITS NOW & I WILL BE RETURNING AGAIN:

Been to 692 grounds in the u.k and europe and 1 in africa
just love doing new grounds and new pubs and talking to football fans from all over different place's
i am all ready looking to do new grounds this june in pre season friendlies deffo doing camberley town v reading city on the 29.6.24
I have done the 92 but with clubs getting new grounds all the time its hard to keep up with and not cheap
my tip to anyone that wants to start this great adventure is to plan ahead and try to find another team playing in or around the area that you are going two as games can be called off or switched to another venue in short notice
the lower leagues are the best to visit with many friendly people and staff at their clubs
ENJOY :occasion5:
