Jason Perry: Cardiff need a director of football to progress
Former Cardiff captain Jason Perry has called on Vincent Tan to appoint a director of football, claiming the club will never progress without more football acumen on the board.

This comes amid a protracted stand-off between manager Erol Bulut and the owner over a contract to keep him on for next season and beyond.

Bulut helped the club improve on their league position for the first time in five seasons, finishing in 12th, but fans are none the wiser as to who will be in the dugout come the first game of next season.

The situation is quickly becoming farcical and in the Supporters' Trust's annual general meeting minutes, they report that Perry was strong in his views on both Tan and what the club needs to ensure sustained success going forward.

The Trust said: "Jason pulled no punches about the club’s owner Vincent Tan, saying the failure to appoint a football person as a director of football continued to hamper the progress of the club. He said the club didn’t have a plan and he argued that Cardiff City was now only a really attractive proposition manager-wise to someone that was young or desperate because of the way the club was run.

"Jason said the issue of pace desperately needed to be addressed and while he accepted that a lot of money had been wasted in the past, there was a need to give the manager funds for the new season."

Legend? That word is bandied about for just about anyone who has played for us for more than 10 minutes & has lost all meaning to me.

He's not wrong in what he's saying but not everyone is a legend.

I completely agree, it's so overused it's lost any meaning and especially when used by the "Bellends" at Wales OnLine.

But your right of course, his words echo what we all think except apparently from the man at the top.

Jason Perry is a great servant to the club. I agree with the “legend” tag being overused but give him his respect.

Who here has disrespected him or not respected him? Nobody, that's who.

Well I agree that’s it’s branded about way way to Much and def to 90’s of Ex City players and it’s Media Wales and Keith Morgan who say it.

But for me Jason Perry is after 280 appearances for us, and with us as a local Lad for over 10 years def is one.

Yes your right Jason is Spot in what he says.

Grangendstar , It's been 8 weeks now and we've heard nothing, I think it will happen from my information, but chances are we will see a repeat of this season and it's just not acceptable given we should be where Brighton are and fans need to be constantly reminded of this until VT either sells or brings someone in, and not just a DoF, as he will also be ultimately be over ridden by Vincent Tan.

Forever Blue, A DoF or sporting director should have been VTs day one appointment. He got burned by Moody but he wasn't a DoF, just head of recruitment, massive difference. I love Warnock as much as the next man but he also said to VT he didn't like DoF's, as most managers don't, but that obviously resonated and reinforced the Moody experience too where mills were lost.

We of course need a DoF, it's a basic requirement these days and as important as a manager and his available budget, as it's long term strategic continuity as things inevitably change, that's a given in elite football.

But as it stands, even if we had a DoF, VT would over ride him too, as he does with the board on strategic and sensible propositions.

All VT has to do is get someone proven in to run the show and sit back. Or sell at the present market value and move on. Or a hybrid of that.

It's not anti VT, "club bashing" or pro or anti anyone or anything. Even if this was not Cardiff City and it was another club or even another sport, that's what has to be done and everybody wins. It's just common sense and everyone can see it.

I'm not expecting a real time news feed from the club about the present situation as I'm sure it will be resolved one way or the other soon, but a few words of assurance from the board wouldn't go amiss, would they?

Loved Jason Perry as a player. Made many appearances for the bluebirds and was our captain too.

Wore his heart on his sleeve and defined the bone crunching tackle. Left many an opposition player rolling around on the floor but he was always up and ready to go again. He'd probably get sent off a lot in the modern game.

Defo a club legend for me...and a real nice genuine guy off the pitch too!

He's a good guy. Even Earnie and Blakey have all recently said we need a change at the top, everyone is saying it.

I may email VTs mum to see if she can have a word with him ,as apparently she told him he was a very naughty boy and to immediately change our colours back and say sorry. Gotta be worth a punt.

I was at this meeting, and Jason spoke a lot of sense, and really is a nice guy to boot.
