DAVID MARSHALL HANGS UP HIS GLOVES

Mon Jun 10, 2024 5:23 pm

He retires after a career lasting 22 years.

He will take up a performance coach role at Hibs.

One of the best keepers I've seen in a City top.

One of the best, if not the best keepers in my time supporting this club

Best wishes to David Marshall and his lovely family going forward :ayatollah:

Chris,

When I wrote one of the best, I re read it and realised that the others that I have seen or known are there for other reasons.

Ability wise, I think Marshall is the best I've seen.

Jon Halworth, Neil Alexander, great as they were at the time, are miles behind what Marshall was.

Ron Healy comes close but yes Marshall probably the best.

I remember playing Villa at home in the prem and Villa shot from inside the area and from where I sit in block 113 it looked a certain goal in the top corner, but Marshall's reactions where brilliant, tipping the ball away for a corner. My son and I looked at each other in total amazement.

Top keeper. All the best to him in his coaching role.

I remember in the same game he made a point blank save from a header in the area. Amazing save.

We’ve always been lucky in the goalkeeper front; loved Ron Healey but David Marshal was the best…! :ayatollah:

I agree Chris. Bill Irwin was pretty good too as was Andy Dibble.

I remember that one, think it was very late in the game. He made a couple of brilliant saves that day.

Go to 10.14 in this video of the Leicester play off semi final, what a save Marshall makes, he was a fantastic goalie.

Same here, maybe Ron Healey and Gavin Ward could come close.

usually we have been lucky but on the other hand I give you

Peter Zois
Stephen Bywater
Dimi Dropalot
Tony Warner
Ross Turnbull

But yes, I agree - we have MOSTLY been lucky with our keepers!
