Late 70s the police let them in the grange end early the only time the grange end was occupied by away fans to my knowledge .We were tamping when we realised but a big line of police kept us apart .Pompey always showed up unlike some and set the fashion trend as well :old:

Villa also did around 73/74 but were quickly sent packing by the locals :old:

I was at the Cup Final with Pompey supporters, including my son in law. In spite of the result, I still had a bloody great time. They were a great bunch of lads.

They got in very early. When I went through the turnstiles at the Grange End the police ushered us under the stand and onto the bob bank where, as you say, a big line of police kept everyone apart. I think it must have been earlier than the late seventies because if i remember the fence was put up in 1974 before the Man Utd game and i cant remember there being a fence for the Pompey game

Must have been before 1976 as that was my first game and I didn’t see this game.

Andrew, you are spot on; the Bluebirds fence went up in 1976 and remained until early 2006 when we played Burnley. The fences remained for 26 years and ours were actually the very last of the 92 EFL clubs to have their fences removed :ayatollah:

The fence between the grange and bob bank was put up for the United game i think. That would be 1974.
