Blackburn Rovers have appointed former striker Rudy Gestede as head of football operations.

The 35-year-old scored 35 goals in 72 appearances for Rovers before leaving for Aston Villa in July 2015.

He also had spells in English league football with Cardiff City and Middlesbrough and also played in France, Australia, Greece and Iran.

Rudy Gestede:

"I couldn’t take my first steps into life off the pitch in a better place than with Blackburn Rovers,” the ex-Benin international told the club website.

Not the most cultured of players but an awkward sod to play against and who we gave away for £300,000 and who Blackburn then sold for £6 million if i remember rightly. There he teamed up with Ross McCormack who we also gave away but who Villa signed for £12 million!! Enough said

Just before we sold him I thought he had really improved

Especially the year we went up - he got 2 braces in about 4 games or something at the end of the season and I thought he may do well if not in the Premier league then when we likely went back down (which we did)

Will always remember his debut setting up Kenny Miller for the winner at West Ham away

I thought it was ridiculous to be honest. We signed an unknown, spent a few years developing him and turning him
Into a decent player, then just as he got good we sold him for peanuts. Crazy

Loved him at our club.
Unfortunately was not getting picked enough times.

I think we sold him when we were in the Premier League in the January transfer window. Although he was clearly not Prem player he was useful of the bench and more importantly as we looked as if we were going down anyway he would have been great for the following year back in the Championship
