What age is too old to 'make it'?

Sat Jun 29, 2024 1:14 pm

We have a fairly old and experienced squad, and our youngsters opportunities are quite limited.

We talk on here about our youngsters and their progress, but at what point should they have made it, it they are going to be good enough for this level?

Obviously there is no point talking about the likes of Yamal, Pedri and Gavi being extremely good at that age, BUT I would expect our players to be in the first team set up by 21 if they are going to 'make it'

Not going out on loan to Pontypridd for instance.

On the flip side, we see players like Vardy coming through late, Kane couldn't get off the bench for Leicester as a youngster etc

What's everyone's thoughts?

Depends on what context we are talking about? Vardy been playing in lower league when signed by leicester club where your never to old or young! If talking about being at a championship club around 20 should have made breakthrough if not highly unlikely make the grade at this level as always there are exceptions..

For me there is no age - Ian Wright is a good example how he played better in age .
