Lowball the lil clubs

Thu Jul 04, 2024 9:16 pm

I’d like us to make lowball offers for every player that won player of the season for their respective clubs in league one last season. Maybe a few from other nations too. Perry NG was a good signing and we need more like that. When the other teams fans come out and say you’ve got a right gem there. That’s a good feeling. We need players on lower wages that are up to it.

This was the team of the season

I get your point of view and it could work out for sure but there arent many decent choices here

Those boys Pack and Mendez-Laing could be worth a punt.

Define low ball?

That Burrows the left back at Peterborough we couldn’t low ball. He’s a premier league player very soon and likely an England player of the future.

Superb player.

Other players there even low balling is above our budget.

We were linked to Tyler Goodrhem at Oxford. He ain’t coming to Cardiff. He’s well above our level.

Weird post.

“Weird post” - thanks for coming
If you’ve nothing nice to say don’t say anything bud.

I don’t think it was weird at all to say hey I’d rather we invested in players that would want lower wages than try and take nat Phillips for 30+ a week wages. I like Nat I can see his qualities but I can also see that two players like him puts us financially on the edge and I’d rather we were a bit more savvy financially.

Also the picture above was the league one team of the season. Not quite what I said. I’d like to target or at the least have a scout of the player of the season at each club in league one maybe Scottish prem ligue 2 and so on. And then from the scouting establish a few targets of value within our budget. Maybe they’ve got a year left on their deal or the club need the money.

It’d be hard work to go list every clubs POYS but just looking at Cardiff the last ten years:
23/24 - NG
22/23 - NG
21/22 - Drameh
20/21 - Moore
19/20 - Tomlin
18/19 - Etheridge
17/18 - Morrison
16/17 - Gunnar

Solid players. Not a bad filter to scout players by IMO

I wasn’t being abusive saying weird post. Well I wasn’t meant to be.

It is a weird post though.

Low ball the little clubs? Where do you think we are as a club at the moment?

Players of the season at every league one club would likely be out of our price range.

I don't actually see a massive amount of quality in that tots.

Two of them are our past players.

Apart from the Peterborough left back.

24 players of the year at each club would be more than is on display there.

Sheehan would be too expensive for us.

Brannagan at Oxford (their player of the year) would be ton expensive for us.

We are a small club now in reality.

I appreciate your reply I didn’t mean to be sassy just kinda thought it’s the off season all there is this idle who will we sign transfer chatter we shouldn’t discourage it by saying weird post.

You do raise a decent Q tho about where we are as a club. I don’t think those types of players are out of our reach I mean some may be but the majority a million or less you’d like to think for a player highly thought by their fans woukd be nice. I think we already have a top 6 wage budget in the champ so I’d be suprised to see us take on many high wages but a lower league player who’s excelled and is affordable would be nice.

Look at Perry like I said two years in a row our player of the season signed from Crewe who were league one at the time for 350k rising to 500k. He was their captain and player of the season.

He’s instrumental to their system. He’s too expensive in that we couldn’t lowball them for him.
