Cameron Antwi having medical at Newport Monday

Cardiff City Signed Cameron Antwi in 2022 after being released by Blackpool, aged 22 and will on Monday Sign for League 2 Newport County.

Played 4 mins for Cardiff City in 2 years.

Was originally given a one year contract then Darren Purse had his contract renewed for another year.

Newport County have agreed a permanent transfer with Cardiff City for Cameron Antwi.

The 22-year-old will sign for Newport County on a two-year contract after he completes a medical next week.

Once that has gone through the deal is expected to be announced publicly, with the midfielder joining in time to get a full pre-season with his new club.

Antwi originally joined Cardiff from Blackpool in 2022 after being released , but he has only made one cameo appearance for the club.

Antwi featured for just four minutes in the FA Cup last season, but never played any Championship football as he now prepares to drop down the football pyramid in search of more game time.

This is my point we sign these players who are released from clubs lower than us , could not make it with them and then they stay 1 or 2 yrs and 99% of the time we then release them, it’s unbelievable.

Everyone Says get rid of the deadwood, reduce wages, we make the deadwood ourselves and have already done it again this season for about the 15th season in a row.

Darren Purse is bringing these players in and honestly we go one step forward in our U21 but 5 steps backwards under him.

Originally given a one year contract, Purse then gave him another year.

Darren Purse:

"Cameron really stood out, and it was a bit of a no-brainer to sign him up. Brings a little bit of experience with U21 football and senior football in Cameron's case, and it's an opportunity for him to show that he can impress and become a regular first team player.”

Watched u21s a few times early in the season. Terrible standard. Purse stealing a living. Watched him talking to players and they looked bemused.
