A forum for all things Cardiff City

Alex Robertson is having a medical with Cardiff City on Friday ahead of a move from Manchester City.
Portsmouth, where Robertson was on loan last season, were also interested but are now resigned to the fact that the midfielder with join the Bluebirds.
The news is seen as a major blow to Pompey as they prepare for their return to the Championship.
Robertson has less than a year left on his contract and Cardiff are understood to prefer a permanent deal. However Portsmouth could also be interested as Manchester City are willing to let him go.
Alexander Robertson aged 21 joined Manchester City in 2017 but never been able to break in to the first team squad.
So went out on loan
Played for Portsmouth in League 1 / 23 times
And Ross County 3 times
On loan at League 1 Portsmouth last season and did well

If that is the case he has only scored 1 goal in 23 games

Good news:
18th July 2024
On Tuesday night Erol Bulut confirmed the club were looking to add a midfielder, as well as a winger, striker and one or two more defensive players, but Robertson certainly fits that midfield brief. However, Robertson is one of three players drawn up on Cardiff's shortlist to fill that berth.

Not about the goals as not a striker .... Portsmouth fans rate him so can't be that bad!

He's primarily an 8 but can play 6 or 10. I imagine he'll be used in a double pivot with Siopis, and will hopefully help with ball retention and progressing play.
He's had injury problems, but looks to be a very talented player. Very happy to take a punt, seems like the kind of player we lack.

We could have signed Mbappe on a free & people would complain because he was a free transfer & it showed a lack of ambition.

Is he Championship level?
Only time will tell, but I am not excited about this signing.

These are the gambles we need to make, Well schooled, we have evidence at L1 in his first season and Citeh can't be seen as stalling kids progression is they are not the next Phil Foden.
I hope this is a transfer rather than loan

That was my first thought as well BUT
I would rather a youngster fresh out of an academy like Man City's, who has played men's league football already to a fairly decent standard whilst also winning promotion into the Championship rather than say a player who has spent their entire career in L1 or L2 who we only signed due to a "purple patch"

Has he officially signed yet??
Fri Jul 26, 2024 4:22 pm
No no no!!!

I think you've got to trust the process. The Gaffer has mostly brought in better than we have so if this guy comes in he'll probably turn out to be better than what we have. I mean, I still can't quite get my head around the fact that we got Chambers and if his cameo was anything to go by may well turn out to be one of the best signings in the last 15 years.

People moan if we bring a youngster in from an L2 club.
People now moan about a youngster from Man City.
Give it a rest and give the guy a chance.

He hasn't signed yet!!!

I'm aware thank you.
More likely he will sign though than you actually posting anything positive.

Well said.
The person you’ve quoted spent August to March last season telling everyone we’d be in a relegation battle, so best to take their views with a pinch of salt.
