Free transfer are NOT Free

Fri Jul 26, 2024 8:19 pm

Lots has been said about us signing two very solid players on a free and how this lacks any real intention from the club.

If you are a person that believes that a free transfer is actually free, or a free transfer is a bad player, then you need to wake up.

Inflated wages, large agent fees, large signing on fees are all typical on free signings. Sometimes ending up all in all costing the same as if there was a fee.

There are many reasons why a player could be available on a free too. Clubs cutting salaries, managers feeling a player doesn't fit a style of play, a player wanting out etc etc.

Remember Mbappe went to Real on a free before you complain about free transfers.

Your post nearly made sense untill you put Mbappe in it.

It is to prove a point that not every free transfer is a bad player.

We had this conversation last season and season before on here....People do think we don't spend money because we didn't pay a fee for players? Whilst it may not be as high as actually paying a fee it does not mean the players are of inferior quality! Is Rambo inferior to anyone we paid fee for in past 10yrs I don't think so......

Agree with the post.
I’m curious what wages Willock and Chambers are on but also I’m a little scared to find out. Chambers has experience yes but he was on 50k a week at Villa!
If we are paying him 20/25k a week it’s a gamble with his injury record.

Just noted on SSN that out of about 50 signings in championship only one stated a fee £500k paid by Huddersfield all rest were either free loans or most undisclosed fee? Whoy so many clubs not releasing what they paid for players?

Could be to do with not wanting clubs to know they have money to spend.

Hull for example will probably be paying over the odds for players now, as everyone knows how much money they have made in the last few seasons. Same with Coventry
