We are pleased to announce the signing of Anwar El Ghazi.

The winger has put pen-to-paper on a one-year deal with the Bluebirds.

Anwar has enjoyed a stellar playing career, starring for Ajax, Lille, Aston Villa, Everton and PSV. He also has Championship experience, winning promotion with Villa during the 2018/19 season, scoring in the Play-Off final victory over Derby County. The 29-year-old has two Netherlands international caps to his name.

Speaking at the Vale Resort, Anwar said: “I’m excited. I’m really hungry and looking forward to playing for this great Club. The city is amazing. I’ve got to feel at home, and from the moment I arrived here I’ve been feeling good.

“I know I’ve not been playing for a while. I stayed fit for myself, but team training is obviously different. When I’m fully fit, I want to help the team where I can with goals, with assists and with my experience. I will give everything for the shirt.”

City boss Erol Bulut added: “Anwar knows what football is in the Championship and the Premier League, so he can help us a lot. In offensive roles he can play the part, in his creativity, finishing and assists. I think we are getting one player that the fans in the stadium will like, with his skills and moves on the field.

“He will need a little bit of time to get ready, as he was away from football for a long time, but we will get him fit and we will see a quality player in El Ghazi.”

Anwar is our second signing of the week, joining Wilfried Kanga at the Bluebirds for 2024/25. Welcome to CCS, Anwar!

I hope he's not too far behind the team due to not playing for a long time though?
I suppose having him play against Sunderland may be too soon?

A great signing. I'm always excited for the new season to start but now I'm feeling more optimistic than usual.

A bit disappointed it's only a 1 year contract, this time next year he'll be a free agent again and we'd have made no money from him. Hopefully we can get him to sign an extension before clubs approach him.

Terrific signing but hope fans will be patient. He will be way short of match fitness so he will have to gradually play his way into the side. Doubt he'll be in the match day squad against Sunderland.
