CARDIFF CITY NOW CONFIDENT OF SIGNING ALEX ROBERTSON ON A PERMANENT DEAL - THE PLAYER WANTS TO MOVE TO CARDIFF AND THE CLUB WILL NEGOTIATE A FEE WITH MAN CITY
EROL BULUT WANTS 2-3 MORE SIGNINGS BEFORE THE START OF THE SEASON NEXT WEEK
Erol Bulut admitted Manchester City's Alex Robertson is an "interesting" player amid Cardiff City's growing optimism over landing the midfielder.
The Bluebirds are understood to have been interested in the 21-year-old for some time now and he even met with Cardiff representatives last weekend. We are also told that other Championship clubs, including his old loan team last season Portsmouth, are also keen on signing him.
The Bluebirds, though, look well-placed to land him and will now look to start negotiations over a fee. After Cardiff's 2-1 win over Reading in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday night, Bulut certainly hasn't ruled out a move for the player. When asked about the chase for Robertson, he said: "Let’s see how the situation will end.
"I don’t know about other offers but he is an interesting player. He is a quality, good player it is normal he has offers so we shall see."
Cardiff added Anwar El Ghazi to their ranks in the early hours of Thursday morning, making it four new additions to the squad so far this summer following the acquisitions of Chris Willock, Calum Chambers and Wilfried Kanga.
But the manager does want more in this summer. When asked how many he expects in by the first Championship game of the season a week on Saturday, he replied: "May be two or three more let us see. You never know.
"I am thinking about strengthening the team much, much better and as Cardiff City we have targets. To get these targets everybody has to be ready. We need quality and I hope we can add a few players more."
This summer already has a different feel about it to last summer. Ironically, Cardiff couldn't spend a penny last summer, while they have not forked out a fee for any of their four signings so far in this window.
But there does seem to be a more cogent strategy to how they are going about things this summer, nailing down key positions and identifying their ideal player profiles. They have missed out on a couple of targets, namely two strikers, but Bulut agrees this summer has gone a lot more smoothly than last year.
"Of course, it's not easy on the market and I have said before we will not spend stupid, crazy money to get some players," he added.
"So I think up to now we have really good players, who will be good for the squad. We are talking young players and experienced players. So we have a really good mix. And the atmosphere in the team, the friendship is great.
"We had a great pre-season in Austria with the games, so the players were really focussed. The games showed us we are in a really good way.
"Also with our youngsters, many played today [against Reading]. Everything looks positive now and I hope all the season until the end will look positive for us."
Supporters also appear happy with the summer business so far, with the most recent acquisition El Ghazi boasting top-level experience with huge clubs like Ajax, Aston Villa, Everton and PSV. Bulut, understandably, is delighted with his addition.
"We are watching and searching the whole of Europe and world football," he said. "We follow the news and we had a talk with El Ghazi. He was a long time away from football so he wants to play again. We had a talk and I think he will be a great addition to our squad and he can help us in our game."
Given the controversial nature of his exit from Mainz — he was officially made a free agent on Wednesday after a German court ruled in his favour pertaining to his dismissal at Mainz over pro-Palestinian social media posts — Bulut was asked whether that was a consideration when signing him.
"I don’t want to talk about what happened in Mainz," he added. "This is between him and Mainz.
"As Cardiff City we are focussing on football and our game. He is hungry to be back again we have an agreement and I hope he will be really good for Cardiff City."

Be absolutely amazed if we dont see a player or two come in from Turkey. He knows the players and the league inside out and much better value for your money. Guess time will tell.

Wouldn't be surprised if he was on the fence about joining but seeing the calibre of players we have signed/signing then he can see we are making a good go of it and wants to be part of it

BBC now saying we’re negotiating a fee with Man City.
Plenty of reports on social media that he wants to sign for us. I know social media isn’t always the most reliable but it’s coming from multiple sources.

Some real intent going into these signing. The fact he wants the move shows what we want to achieve this season.
So the question is now is tan fully backing Bulut?
And that’s yes in my eyes. Well done to the board
Now it’s down to Bulut to achieve the goals set.

It is reported that Cardiff City are growing in optimism over the signing of Manchester City midfielder Alex Robertson, ahead of the likes of Hull City and Portsmouth.
That's according to Glen Williams of Wales Online, who reports that Erol Bulut has described the ex-Pompey loanee as an "interesting" player, as Cardiff grow in confidence of securing his services for 2024/25.
A move back to Portsmouth would have been a transfer that suited all parties, with a step up to the Championship with a club he is familiar with, which would have done his development the world of good. Since his loan ended, it has been reported that Pompey are keen on bringing the 21-year-old back to Fratton Park.
The Manchester City loanee scored once and set up four goals in 26 appearances in all competitions last season.
Robertson was a key figure in Portsmouth's midfield until a hamstring injury curtailed his season in January but Portsmouth have been hopeful of bringing him back to PO4 for a second term.
According to Australian news outlet FTBL, the Championship newcomers face competition from Everton and several unnamed Championship and Premier League clubs, who are reportedly interested in the Australia international.
Those were then named, with Hull City emerging as potential suitors in the race to land Robertson, per an update from BBC Sport Wales' football correspondent Rob Phillips. He claimed that the East Yorkshire outfit joined divisional rivals Cardiff City and Portsmouth in the hunt for the Australia international.
This came in response to some questions concerning the state of play regarding transfers at the Tigers' divisional rivals Cardiff, who also hold a strong interest in striking a deal for the 21-year-old.

It was revealed by Wales Online that Robertson was placed on a three-man shortlist by Erol Bulut, as the Turk looks to bolster the Bluebirds' options in the centre of the park.
It has been reported that Cardiff were looking into the possibility of a permanent deal, although Manchester City are looking at extending Robertson's contract at the Etihad Stadium, which currently expires next June, therefore potentially making a loan move the more viable option.
It was then revealed by former Cardiff reporter Paul Abbandonato that the midfielder may not necessarily be the first choice for the Bluebirds for an engine room addition. However, the latest from Williams is that a deal is now close.
Erol Bulut spoke to Wales Online after sealing the signing of Anwar El Ghazi. The Bluebirds boss was asked about Robertson and replied: "I don’t know about other offers but he is an interesting player. He is a quality, [a] good player. It is normal he has offers, so we shall see."

I'm not going to say anything except it's not a done deal for me until he's holding up or wearing a CCFC shirt. We all know how fast things change in this game.

Doesn’t seem like it this time. Fee agreed and he wants the move so just a formality.
