VINCENT TAN: “ I WANT “

Tue Aug 06, 2024 1:10 pm

Vincent Tan Says:

“Vincent always wants to be promoted,” smiles Choo when asked what the owner’s expectation is for 2024-25.

“Vincent is incredibly excited about this season.”

“He was in good form, very enthused about the prospects for the club this season.”

“Cardiff City is the one business that is the most interesting to him and which he wants to talk about the most.”

Ken Choo also said:

“Youngsters like Isaak Davies, Eli King and Joel Colwill are among others also tipped for big things, while there are major expectations for defenders Ronan Kpakio, captain of Wales age-grade teams, and Malachi Fagan-Walcott.”

“It is hard to recall a time when such a large group of talented teenagers have come through.”

To be fair to Tan this summer, he has given Bulut the players he’s asked for. Now it’s time for Bulut to deliver.

There might not be many big fees but the wages we’re paying are not low.

I do agree that the young players coming through are better than in previous years, but we can’t rely on just them.

I’m not the biggest fan of this ownership but credit where due, they have backed the manager this summer and more to come.

Backed to an extent yes. Itll be interesting to see how that backing pans out in the light of the fact that we have had three unexpected injuries. I've always known its not a never ending pocket, but backing should also include surprise and urgent requirements.

Two things for me. If we get serious money for a player, maybe McGuiness(?), if the manager is being backed then then tangibly, Id like to see at least some of that money will need to go on new player(s).

Secondly, I'll make a judgement on full backing once the window has closed. A good start yes, but if either nobody else comes trough the door, or the next transfers are of doubtable quality, then it could be difficult to say Bulut has been backed.

Nevertheless, if he is backed, then good on the club.

I still think we’re light on an established striker.

If we nail that and this guy from Man City then I think we have to say Bulut has been backed.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’m not sure there’s such thing as an established striker.

But if there is, then who would you sign? And are they affordable?

The reality is most clubs will take a gamble and hope it comes good. We’ve done that with Kanga and he needs more than 20 minutes in a pre season friendly after being with the club less than a week to prove himself.

I have no doubt that we will sign another striker, probably on loan, because of the injury to Davies.

By the way, West Brom finished in the top six last season with a top scorer of 11 goals (who they signed from League Two).

Szmodics scored 28 for Blackburn and they were nowhere near the top six.

Willock, Ramsey, El Ghazi, Kanga, Robinson can all get a decent amount of goals. If we continue to be strong on set pieces as well, we wouldn’t need a high scoring striker.

Having an in-form, goal scoring Robinson is like having a new striker but I agree that another is required, preferably a loan from a decent PL club.

Relying on a good striker is throught with problems namely players giving up better opportunities to pass to the striker who is in bad position compared ho others? You see it all the time..... having the ability like we have of scoring from numerous players means main striker as more space making it easier to get into dangerous positions... having 20+ scorer is no garauntee of anything but having 4 or 5 players scoring 10 goals is far more valuable in long run.

To be fair that all sound good to me .We've had years of problems and a players death .I can actually understand tans frustration and him being ultra conscious.
He's mad as a hatter we no this .I wish he'd employ a director of football but there is a good feeling about the club at the moment and that starts at the top.
Looking forward to a new season in a positive way and I'm happy with the signings to be fair.
Bulut is playing with a high press and when on the ball we look quick sharp and positive.
Players look a lot happier to in pre season .I think bulut should of kept his top two target in the league to himself because he's just raised the expectations now.
However it maybe a good thing most exciting I've been for a season in a long while credit where it's due but results matter so we will see.

Credit to him for holding up his end of the bargain with the signings.

BUT it does not make up for taking away our identity or the lack of interest he has shown to us in the last couple of seasons.

I call bs on the "business he is most interested in". What it should say is "Vincent is aware that he needs Cardiff promoted for other parties to pay more money for the club"

Fair point. It would be great to have a 20 goal man, but the two promotions to the Premier League have been with sides where everyone chipped in. Dont think we had anyone who scored more than 11 or 12 league goals.
