There’s good news and bad news.
Good news is that Willock looks great. Always wants the ball and will run at defenders. Has the ability to drift inside when needed which helps.
The bad news is that Tanner is incapable of starting at this level. He just passes the ball backwards or gives the ball away.
El Ghazi will be first choice on the right but until he’s ready, we need to play someone other than Tanner.

I like Tanner. He’s shown a few times the ability he has, and the purple patch he had last season.
He looks shot of confidence. He’s not running at full backs like he was when he joined, like you said he keeps just passing the ball off, rather than taking the man on.
I think he needs time out of the team, and Bulut needs to try and work out what makes him click.

The attacking intent is better than last season but its same story no end product eg efforts on goal! Willock like you say is looking good and tanner needs to try and beat his defender as not much behind him.

I think Tanner has had a decent half personally, especially without the ball which is just as important against the likes of Jack Clarke. Ng has sold him short a couple of times and was also at fault for their goal. Although Robbo had a good pre season I feel he is incapable of leading the line for us, and the amount of times we’ve crossed it in and he’s the only one in the box doesn’t help. Ramsey has been a passenger and would not be upset if he was hooked at half time.

Tanner has to be pulled, Ng lacks the pace to overlap. Robbo has no pace.

'make him click' feck me give him a bib and bottle and blanky

I disagree. He's had a decent half.
Hes had no space to do anything and multiple times he's found himself in dangerous positions because of his movement.
Sat Aug 10, 2024 1:52 pm
I'd rather have an unfit El Ghazi than tanner
Sat Aug 10, 2024 1:56 pm
Willock looked good, plenty of tricks and creativity. Worried he's a bit of a pussy though. Perhaps not the player you want in a team that wants to win things...early days though, I may be wrong about him.
Tanner looked lost today, did a fair bit of defending but he just doesn't have the experience to cut it at this level yet. He needs a loan to league 1 or even 2. Get a full season under his belt.

I feel the goal against Swansea saved him from being abused alot last year. But this year people realise he's not championship level and will get hounded throughout season

Tanner was terrible today.
Colwill over tanner for ability in passing and creativity.

Think meite did more in 10 mins than tanner did in 60

Spot on! Tanner is out of his depth.
Willock needs to pull the trigger a bit more on todays showing, for me.

Tanner isn’t championship standard one trick pony always cuts in his left or passes backwards must be dropped asap

How will you get two better players with the £12.50 you'd get for those three?

Unless you’ve played at a decent level, you wouldn’t understand.
Especially as a winger, you need confidence. Sometimes you need a different approach. Some players need a kick up the arse, some need an arm around.

Fair play to Tanner - a three year contract earned on the strength of one goal and he's contributed virtually nothing ever since.
League 2 standard at best.
Sat Aug 10, 2024 3:29 pm
He definitely has ability, but he is inconsistent and most of the time frustrating.
El Ghazi getting fit will see him drop down the order, but even without El Ghazi I think Meite should start.
Sat Aug 10, 2024 3:33 pm
A lot of times Tanner was in acres of space on the right but the ball was always being sent into traffic on the left, that's not his fault but he didn't do much when he did get the ball so maybe the rest of the team decided to ignore him.
Sat Aug 10, 2024 3:44 pm
I like him, he has potential to excite but is too inconsistent and he does seem to have lost confidence in beating his man using his right foot.
Towards the end of last season when he payed on the left he put in some tremendous crosses and would definitely have him on the bench to be used on the left or right. For now it has to be Meite starting on the right until Al Ghazi is up and running
Sat Aug 10, 2024 3:48 pm
I agree Willock looks good. Not the quickest but can take a defender on.
I did hope that Tanner would come good but he's had his chances, time to get rid, Miete is better.

Absolutely. Tanner doesn’t look fit.
Sat Aug 10, 2024 11:20 pm
Tbh I thought tanner looked better at left back at the end of last season.
Sun Aug 11, 2024 4:19 am
Good post. Agree totally. Tanner is not up to the standard we need in that position even as a mid table championship team.
Sun Aug 11, 2024 2:00 pm
Tanner was poor. I don’t think he’s championship standard. I think he’s league one at best. He’s living off that Swansea goal . He’s done nothing since.
Sun Aug 11, 2024 2:21 pm
Loan Tanner, he's not up to this level.
Sun Aug 11, 2024 2:28 pm
Ollie Tanner for me is not a Championship player

Tanner put in an absolute disaster class for me, utter dogshit performance. He can't cross, he can't beat his man, what is he there for then? Meite was x10 better and actually tried to make things happen.
Once El Ghazi is fit, Tanner should be nowhere near the first team, Meite should be picked ahead of him.
