The balance in midfield

Mon Aug 12, 2024 6:41 am

I was very frustrated Saturday afternoon, but I’ve had 24 hours to reflect on the performance.

The goals we conceded were very frustrating, because they were avoidable goals. A free header, and Clarke’s goal you could see what he was going to do.

Anyway, the midfield played well. We created chances, and moved them around a lot. BUT, I think the balance is not right in the midfield. Can’t have a midfield of Ralls and Sio, especially at home. Away it may work. Neither of them played bad, but what kills us is how slow the build up play is.
In my opinion you need to have King or Sio at the base, with Robertson, or Turnbull playing as the 8. They both move that ball much quicker between the lines, and that’s what’s missing.

Agree mate. I’ve written a similar post :bluescarf:

A lot have been saying the same about midfield and I’m really struggling to understand why people are not seeing the obvious.

It is clear to everyone that Siopis is our 6, Robertson is our 8 and Ramsey is our 10. When it comes to first choice.

Ralls will mainly play off the bench.

Robertson couldn’t play Saturday because he’d only had three training sessions for the team. I expect he’ll be in contention to start at Burnley, there’s nothing wrong with his fitness.

He is a proper box to box midfielder so will 100% improve us with his energy.

Sorry mate, didn’t realise you had done a similar post.

But, yeah. Can’t say Ralls or Sio played bad, because they didn’t. Just the ball needs to be moved quicker I feel, and Robertson and Turnbull can both do that.

I’m hoping King and Turnbull start together against Rovers.

I agree mate. It’s one of those, if the ball is moved quicker in between the lines, we then look really dangerous.

I agree but it's only this way due to Robertson needing to get up to speed.

I'm sure he will be seen at Burnley.

Ralls had a decent game but he took his time with distribution which allowed their players to get their shape back.

We need to move the ball a lot faster and I think we will see that from Robertson.

Still strange to see Ramsey starting at 10 after Bulut saying he would be playing deeper this year.

No need to apologise mate. Was just saying that I totally agree. :bluescarf:
