Club Connections

Craig Bellamy famously had a couple of spells with us as a player. He went on to be Burnley’s assistant manager for two seasons, before take the manager’s job with Wales.

Tom Heaton, Steven Thompson and Alan Lee all played for both teams in recent years.

Rival Players

Connor Roberts had a long spell at Swansea before signing for Burnley.

Josh Brownhill previously played for Bristol City for four years.

The Opposition's Manager

Scott Parker is the new Burnley manager, having taken over this summer after Vincent Kompany left to take the Bayern Munich job.

He has a very good record at getting promoted from this league. He has achieved that with both Fulham and Bournemouth.

His last job was with Club Brugge, where he lasted just three months.

As a player, he made over 400 league appearances and earned 18 caps for England.

Opposition Dangerous Players

Lyle Foster scored five goals in the Premier League last season.

The before mentioned Brownhill is an accomplished player at Championship level.

Head To Head

We have not beaten Burnley in our last five meetings, with them winning three of them.

The last meeting was when we lost 3-0 at Turf Moore on the final day of the 2022/23 season, with Burnley the Championship champions that season.

EROL BULUT:

“Robbo (Callum Robinson) got injured in the game against Sunderland, Achilles, so you can calculate how many players I have. Injures are not our friends in the first works! Robbo got a kick and he will have a scan tomorrow to see what he has.”

David Turnbull was injured in the warm up.

Burnley are about to complete a shock swoop for the son of Brazilian and Barcelona legend Ronaldinho, according to reports.

According to Brazilian outlet Globo, Joao Mendes signed a two-year contract with the Clarets earlier today after completing his medical.

The 19-year-old has also been pictured holding up a Burnley shirt at the club’s Gawthorpe training ground alongside his representatives.

Burnley striker Wout Weghorst has been spotted at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport, fueling speculation he may be on his way to Ajax.

ESPN cover the situation on their transfer blog and report that the Burnley striker has been spotted at the airport in Amsterdam as his future remains uncertain.

The Dutch forward has been linked with a move away from Burnley throughout the summer so far after returning from a loan spell at Hoffenheim last season.

All indications have been that he will look for an exit once again, having previously made it clear he had no intention of playing for Burnley in the Championship the last time they were in the division.

I'm all for positivity when it's due but does anyone actually know who the six people are that voted us to beat them on there own turf with that team they had out in there last game who hammered Luton at Luton.

I wouldn't even vote us a draw sadly although I'd love a draw but im just being realistic. We will do the usual set up to try defend with one up front isolated as usual and thats what will cost us in my opinion.

If we was three nil down we wouldnt have two strikers put up front next to each other. It would stay the same for 90 minutes. Eitherway I don't think we got a sniff with this one and could be a bad beating sadly but let's hope I'm wrong..

I’m one of the 6.
It’s the championship.
They’ll be full of (over) confidence and we’ll hopefully work our bollox off without too much pressure
The key I think is to get to half time 0-0 or better.

Got to agree, can’t see us winning and Bulut shouldn’t be criticised if we do lose - we’re expected to lose.

Will be going and should be a decent day out but not going there with any expectation.

Nothing is ever certain in football but fully expect to be beaten. It's about the performance especially moving forward. We lost to Leceister at a similar time last year, scored and played well. I will take that tomorrow. 2 v 1 is my hope but would not be surprised if it's 3 or 4 nil.

Sorry, should have said in my post that obviously the performance is what we will judge! I hope people will give credit if we lose but play well, that’s what I was trying to get at.

We need to start picking up results soon I would say but this isn’t an ideal game for that.

Was at that Leicester game and we could easily have won there. It was the game of Ramsey’s screamer and then Meite should have put us 2-1 up in the second half.

Dead cert for a Burnley victory, I'm afraid.
Infact, looking at the next few fixtures, I can't see where points will be gained.
This could be a dreadful start and I fully expect us to be in the bottom three after the first six games.
I wish I had the optimism some of you guys have, but I've been around long enough to recognise the issues we still have.

I HOPE I'M WRONG!

I'm as optimistic as is comes for City.

I don't see us getting near them. Ghey are going to walk this division and I fully expect to come away from this as the second best team.

There will be those posters on here who will jump on that if we lose, and how it was the tactics that caused it.

Does anyone believe we will actually win this?

In a move that caught many by surprise, Tottenham announced the signing of 19-year-old winger Wilson Odobert from Burnley for a reported fee of £25 million.

This marks the club’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window.

Odobert, who rose through the esteemed Paris St-Germain academy, made his professional debut with Troyes in 2022 before joining Burnley last summer.

During his debut season with the Clarets, he showed promise, scoring four goals and providing three assists in 33 appearances.

Former Hull City playmaker Scott Twine has left Burnley to seal a return to Bristol City -

Burnley recruited Twine in 2022, prising him from Milton Keynes Dons after his stunning campaign at Stadium MK. The Clarets sealed promotion to the Premier League in his maiden campaign but the attacking midfielder was a bit-part player under Vincent Kompany.

He did not follow the club into the top flight, instead sealing a loan switch to Hull. After scoring four goals in 26 appearances for the Tigers, Twine was sent to Bristol City to see out the 2023/24 campaign.

Scott Parker admits there were a number of Burnley players that made promising candidates for captain before eventually settling on Josh Brownhill.

The 28-year-old took the armband for Monday’s season opener against Luton Town, where he scored the opening goal during Burnley’s emphatic 4-1 win.

While Brownhill was often skipper in the Premier League last season, Josh Cullen also wore the armband at times while Jack Cork – who has since departed – was club captain.

When asked about his decision to give Brownhill the captaincy, Parker said: “There’s a number of players that could have got the armband. It was a decision where I probably see Josh and his stature within the squad. Also a bit of fluidity in terms of where it was last year as well.
“There are probably many captains in this team, or certainly the team that started on Monday night, but it was obviously Josh who got that.”

I think a lot of fans have accepted this is a bridge to far with the team we have to put out today maybe with a full first choice team.
hence just over a 1,000 fans i have been there when we have taken over 3,000 and currently in st davids today i hope i am wrong but cannot see bulut throwing caution to the wind which we should do
as sitting back is not going to work against burnley
forever hopeful.

Its only the tactics right? As the reason we lose?

Nothing to so with Burnley being the best team in the league, a team that will rip a new one to half of the teams in this division?

Today is a free hit, just go for it if we get a point it's job done if we don't ok just work hard!

Once we get the players in we need then I'll start to worry if we don't challenge teams
